Why is dental hygiene such a challenge?!
😭 Is it because...

πŸ–€...Sensory issues?
πŸ–€...It is boring?
πŸ–€...It is hard to remember?
πŸ–€...Demand avoidance?
πŸ–€...Lack of motivation or executive functioning?

Depending on your "why," you can find different ways to accommodate yourself at home in a way that makes sense for you. Changing how you approach these tasks and realizing that there is no β€œcorrect” or β€œproper” way to do these things, can be a game changer in getting them done.

If you have any dental hygiene hacks you have tried, feel free to contribute them in the comments.

I believe that as long as we are fighting our brains, it will be difficult to make progress or step forward into the meaningful change you may be seeking.

There is no ONE right way to clean or organize your environment. Part of being a neurorebel is getting creative and going rogue.

πŸ–€

Your home is for YOU to live in; it is NOT a showpiece or a place you have to curate to cultural approval. Imposing these standards often bring feelings of shame. Attempting to hold yourself to an impossible standard can damage your mental and emotional health. Try meeting yourself where you are at, and see what happens.

πŸ–€

I invite you to consider a challenging household task or chore. Is there a "rule" that you push yourself toward for no reason other than the way you were taught, or it is the way it's "supposed" to be done? Consider giving yourself permission to create accommodations in your life to make existing within your space easier, even if you don't have a diagnosis.

πŸ–€

Have you tried this before? I'd love to hear what rules you've thrown out the window!

What's this? Oh, just my emotional support pile of empty candles. πŸ˜… Sometimes, being neurodivergent makes it harder to let go of items even if you know it's what needs to happen.

Buy Nothing Groups take the idiom "One man's trash is another man's treasure" literally.

Here's a list of random things I gave through my group: shredded cardboard, sentimental books that I knew I wouldn't read again, and clothes that I accidentally shrunk. I've also gained so much back, including a sense of belonging within my community.
