It is helpful for couples, individuals, marital counseling, and pre-marital counseling. My life and work have been dedicated to the upliftment of humanity and the psychological and spiritual development of each individual. Educationally, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1971, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the California Sc
hool of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles in 1974. I obtained post-graduate training in Executive Coaching and Organization Development from the William James Institute of the Professional School of Psychology. I practiced as a licensed psychologist from 1976-2002 with offices in Beverly Hills, CA; Nevada City, CA; and Sacramento, CA. As a psychologist, I had specialized training Family and Child Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Intensive Psychotherapy, Organizational Psychology, and advanced psycho-diagnostic assessment. My life and work dramatically changed in 1977 when I began working with terminally ill children. I met Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, M.D., attended one of her weeklong intensive workshops in Maui, and experienced a profound spiritual awakening. I began to explore spiritual development, energy healing, meditation, to augment my psychological practice. I discovered the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and began to practice Kriya Yoga. In 1980, I sold my practice in Beverly Hills and moved to Northern California, living in a tent and meditating six to eight hours a day. After four months of in-depth spiritual-meditation work (winter was upon me and it was too cold to live in the tent), I established a private practice in Nevada City. In 1982, I received strong intuitive guidance to help divert a Nuclear War that was threatening the United States and the Soviet Union. I established Projects for Planetary Peace and led citizen diplomacy exchange programs between our two countries from 1982 – 1986. Our project brought ordinary citizens together to build bonds of cooperation, friendship, and trust. I was able to appear on Good Morning America to discuss our work and presented our experience and findings to the San Francisco staff of the FBI. Following my work in the Soviet Union, I was guided to develop the Love Factor Inventory. I wanted to use my knowledge of healthy psychological functioning, spiritual development, and psychological testing to create an instrument that would help individuals deepen their capacity for love. I directed a two-year study with 2,000 Americans across the United States to develop, validate and standardize a way to measure our skills at loving relationships. This instrument was warmly received and used by mental health professionals. The LFI was also translated and administered to students at the Chinese University of Culture in Taiwan in order to create cross cultural norms. The LFI was first published in 1988. It went out of publication for many years and has now just been republished at www.lovefactorinventory.com. With the changes in healthcare insurance and the added layers of bureaucracy due to Manage Care Companies, the business of a private psychotherapy practice became less appealing. I transitioned out of mental health and began working in the corporate world as an Executive Coach and Organizational Consultant. I worked with great organizations such as eBay, Littler Mendelson, Winstar, and the Self-Realization Fellowship. Because of my love of sports and my knowledge of psychology and spiritual development, I found individuals coming to me for help with their golf game. I began consulting as a sport psychologist specializing with junior and collegiate golfers. I ultimately developed a training program for those interested in learning how to coach the mental game of golf. This information can be found in “Learning to Win: The Coaches Guide for Mastering the Mental Game of Golf.”
I have written and published six books, the first being placed on the LA Times Bestseller’s List:
Sacred Healing: Integrating Spirituality with Psychotherapy. The Yoga of Golf. Bouncing Back: How to Recover When Life Knocks You Down. Learning to Win: Guide to Coach Junior and Collegiate Golfers,
Bouncing Back 2017 in Crisis! How to Prepare for and Recover from Life’s Greatest Threats. The Making of a Champion: Success is an Inconvenience. (Written with Coach Joe Taylor.) Over the course of my professional life, I have lectured internationally in Taiwan, Israel, Mexico, Soviet Union, and India. I have appeared on Fox Sport’s Net, Fox Boston 25 Morning News, the Gary Collin’s Show, Good Morning America and numerous radio interview shows. The world is going through difficult times. We find ourselves polarized in politics, race relations, religion and more. Now more than even, individuals need to practice greater understanding, compassion and love for each other. The LFI offers a way for those interested in self-development and improved relationships to explore their capabilities and potentials. I can be reached directly at drmann@lovefactorinventory.com
