How can something as simple as a heartbeat and the warmth of your skin be the ‘magic’ your newborn needs?

The first hour of life is often called the Golden Hour ~ this is a time when the hospital staff lays your newborn directly on your exposed chest. This “skin-to-skin”contact literally makes scientifically proven “magic”. Which is why experts recommend every infant and every mama get this experience unless they are in a life threatening situation.

While many hospitals are still catching up to global standards, every family deserves to understand the why behind this practice.

Also the impact of skin to skin contact continues long after you leave the hospital. So it should not stop when you go home.

The Feeling of Pure Joy

Have you seen the clip of singer, Durand Bernarr at the Grammys? That explosive, can’t-contain-it excitement is the exact energy we would feel if our community came together to support this work.

Imagine if even a fraction of our committed to just $10 a month. That kind of collective investment would have us celebrating just as loudly.✨

Birthing the Magic Collaborative is fueled by passion and purpose, but sustaining the work requires more than heart. We are a 100% volunteer-led organization, and while we are people-powered, we are not cost-free.

Your $10 monthly contribution helps cover the essentials. It supports the digital tools that make our programming possible, including Zoom and the platforms that host our educational content.

Your support protects our creative autonomy so we can answer directly to our community instead of outside interests or restrictive funding requirements.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, every dollar goes back into the infrastructure that allows us to consistently show up and deliver.

Our work is critical because we curate free perinatal education for Black birthing people and those who care for them. In a system where we are often overlooked, this work is a lifeline. And it is working.

Nearly 10,000 people have engaged with our programming, many attending multiple sessions. Those who return report feeling more confident speaking with their care teams and navigating complex medical information. We are building a virtual village that reflects our experiences, our needs, and our joy.

Join us in making this work sustainable.

Because birth should be sacred, safe, and supported. And the real magic is not luck. It is knowledge shared, voices believed, and community showing up for one another.

Your $10 is not just a donation. It is a declaration that Black women deserve to be seen, heard, and supported at every step.

Let’s build the village we know is possible. Together.

The profound connection between a parent and a newborn begins with a single, powerful action: physical contact.

We invite you to a special virtual event, The Sacred Bond: The Magic of Skin-to-Skin, where we explore why immediate touch is much more than a sweet moment, it is a clinical and emotional necessity for your baby’s development.

On Monday, May 11, at 7 PM EDT, you will have the opportunity to hear from two leading voices in neonatal care and family wellness. Dr. Alice Obuobi, a neonatologist and researcher, joins Dr. Yamile Jackson, founder of Nurtured by Design, to discuss the science and the heart behind skin-to-skin contact.

Together, they will share how this simple practice stabilizes a baby’s heart rate, supports breastfeeding, and builds a lifelong emotional foundation.

They love to cite the statistics, but they rarely mention the souls.

Welcome to Day 3 of Black Maternal Health Week, and we are leaning into this year’s theme: ‘Rooted in Justice and Joy.’

At Birthing the Magic Collaborative, we are challenging a provocative truth:

The system is often obsessed with our death rates but uncomfortable with our power. It tracks our risks, but it fails to see our magic.

Justice in maternal health is not just surviving the hospital stay. It is having your pain validated, not debated.

For too long, the system has tried to define us by statistics. It tracks our mortality, it measures our risk factors, and it paternalizes our experiences. It values “the data” above our deep, innate wisdom.

Justice in maternal health means validating our own Knowing ~ the ancestral power and intuitive knowledge of our bodies. Healing is not a synthesis. It is a reclamation.

Last week, during our powerful Safer Births Now series, we didn’t just pass out diapers and wipes. We sat in that deep “knowing” together. We honored our lived experiences and recognized the sacred architecture of our future. We refuse to let our souls be reduced to a number in a spreadsheet.

Healing is knowing that you are not a problem to be solved. You are a human, a mother, a visionary, and a force of nature.

What does “knowing” your body mean to you?

How are you reclaiming your own knowing? Whether you are an expectant or new mama, or a proud NaNa, let’s honor that in the comments.

Being heard shouldn’t be a matter of life or death.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we have to name a hard truth: Poor outcomes are fueled when Black women’s concerns are minimized, misunderstood, or ignored until it’s too late.

Advocacy shouldn’t feel like an uphill battle while you're at your most vulnerable. To help reclaim that space and find your voice, join us for Advocacy Without Anxiety: Trauma-Informed Communication with Rachell Dumas, MSN, RN.

Learn how to:
Communicate with clarity under pressure.
Stay grounded in clinical settings.
Speak up with confidence when it matters most.

📅 When: May 13 | 7 PM ET

🔗 Register: bit.ly/Without_Anxiety

For our frontline partners (nurses and doulas), this is more than a learning opportunity; it is a chance to deepen your practice in trauma-informed care. By joining us, you’ll gain practical strategies to better support your clients, bridge communication gaps, and advocate effectively within the healthcare system."

We are proud to offer Continuing Education (CE) credits for this session. Upon completion, nurses will have the option to obtain 1 hour of CE, and doulas will receive a certificate validating their attendance.
