I’ve long been concerned about the way healthcare has attracted investors and become one of the fastest-growing industries in America. Let’s be clear, it’s not for your benefit. The profits are built on the harsh reality that Americans’ health and life span are in decline, while just a decade ago, our health span had consistently increased since the early 1900’s.
Today, healthcare investors are betting on Americans with chronic illness, and unfortunately, their bets have been accurate and high yeilding. The number of Americans diagnosed with chronic medical conditions continues to climb. The CDC estimates that 76% of adults and 40% of children have at least one chronic disease.
We should all be deeply concerned, not only about the personal toll of declining health and aging, but also about the burden this places on our families, communities, and society as a whole. Most people themselves or someone they love will end up trapped in the chronic care model, where the focus is on managing disease rather than preventing it.
The best protection you have is what you do for yourself and your family now:
- Daily movement
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Nurturing meaningful relationships, especially with those who value health too
These simple foundations build resilience, help safeguard against an inadequate healthcare system, and prepare you for whatever may come.
