Frustrated by the lack of available information about a rare illness that took their daughter's life, parents of Emily Anderson looked to help other parents of sick kids by founding The Emily Center in 1990. Since then, patient families have access to information that is accurate, easy to understand, and free of charge.

Today, with the help of philanthropic events like Golf-Fore-Charity raising $200,000, the Emily Center is the most comprehensive pediatric health library in the Southwest.

On the last day of childhood cancer awareness month we share a story about our namesake, Emily. Emily was full of energy, laughter and creativity. Following her bone marrow transplant, Emily had numerous clinic visits at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. The clinic was for adults and children. Emily would be annoyed at how long she had to wait. So in typical Emily style, she would find a doctor, ask if she could be seen next so she could go visit "her nurses" and play. Of course she would be the next patient.
. . because it is Time to Shine a light on pediatric cancer!
