I am a Certified Professional Midwife, licensed to practice midwifery in the state of Arizona. Over the course of my four years of training I apprenticed under two midwives here in the Valley—
Wendi Cleckner, and Crystal Peña—and also ventured to the Philippines for 3 months during my final year to work with seven midwives at the Shiphrah Birthing Home in Taytay. My training includes Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP®). I have been attending births in varying capacities since 2004. Midwifery education is a passion of mine, and I seek to incorporate it into my practice locally and internationally. A particular area of interest is to help train women from a given area in the art and science of midwifery to promote sustainable women’s wellness in communities around the world. I was born and raised in the heart of the Southwest, Santa Fe, New Mexico, to a rug merchant and statistician. There I grew up in a culturally diverse and eclectic community. After hearing the word ‘midwife’ for the first time a passion was ignited, and I have been responding to that call ever since. It is my sincere belief that the impact of birth extends beyond that one moment, and directly relates to the spiritual, social and emotional health of the woman and her family—-influencing the wellbeing and progress of the community at large. Beyond my love of all things connected to birth I enjoy immersing myself in the natural beauty of deserts, forests and anywhere near to water. I’m also an avid reader and podcast listener. My husband and I have enjoyed living in the Phoenix Valley for over a decade.
