VA workers have had their union contracts terminated! Federal workers and their union are under attack! Call your senators and representatives and let them know you want them to fight for worker rights and unions! Watch out FB page and events calendar for events supporting VA and other workers and their unions! Workers Over Billionaires rally for workers and unions on Labor Day, September 1st at Veterans Park in Medford 10-12. Sign making party Wed Aug 27th at the Medford library in the Carpenter Room 4:30-6:30pm.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has terminated its collective bargaining agreements with AFGE and other labor unions representing more than 400,000 VA workers.

Letters about Congressman Cliff Bentz are popping up all over District 2 -- even in the far east. This one, by Pendleton's Matt Henry, was in the Hermiston Herald yesterday. We agree, Matt:

Republicans needs to drop Bentz

Rep. Cliff Bentz is the poster boy of the “corrupt politician,” taking his cues straight from Trump’s playbook. What staggers me is we now live in a time where corrupt, wealthy, political oligarchs not only do not try to hide in the shadows but are openly brazen about their venality.

In the July 30 print edition of the East Oregonian, Bentz is quoted as saying: “We can talk all day long about how we’ve all got to get along, and how bipartisanship is great, and all of that. But when it comes down to it, it’s all about power and it’s about watching how that power is utilized.“ Adjectives that come to mind are despicable, antidemocratic, anti-constitutional, evil, mobster.

I realize electing a democratic leader who actually cares about their own electorate to represent this district has a snowball’s chance in hell, but I’m begging you Republicans: For God’s sake, nominate and vote for a morally-authentic human being and drop this cad. Is this too much to ask?

Congressman Cliff Bentz voted to cut $15 BILLION of federal funding from Oregon's budget!

On Aug. 11, 2025, Governor Tina Kotek shared in a news release that a recently passed budget bill, supported by the Trump Administration, is expected to reduce Oregon’s federal funding by about $15 billion over the next three state budget cycles. These cuts could have a serious effect on essential programs, including Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid), food benefits (SNAP), and other critical services we support. The exact numbers may change as the federal government finalizes its rules.

If our Congressman - Cliff Bentz - won't carry our concerns back to Washington, D.C., we'll let someone else do it for him. Our state's newest Congresswoman -- Janelle Bynum -- has agreed to come to Madras for a town hall this Thursday. If you're in the area, please show up and thank her for standing up for her constituents in Washington, D.C.

We learned last week that District 2 Representative Cliff Bentz LOVES to travel in style on the taxpayers' dime, just not in his own district to hear from his constituents. The month of August is a congressional recess, a time when Members of Congress are supposed to be in their home districts meeting with their constituents and hosting public events. But Cliff Bentz has none scheduled on his website and a call to all three of his offices today provided no information about the possibility of any town halls.

The Oregon Nurses' Association (ONA) invited Rep Bentz to a Town Hall in Madras this Thursday August 14 at 6 PM to discuss Medicaid Cuts and Hospital Closures in rural Oregon, but (unsurprisingly) he has not accepted the invitation. So they've also invited District 5 Representative Janelle Bynum, and she said YES! The event will be at the Madras Performing Arts Center. This is a really important opportunity to hold Bentz accountable for refusing to face his constituents after voting for these and many other cuts. Rep Bynum is the first of our Democratic Members of Congress to hold a town hall in Bentz's district, and we are asking the others to hold them, too.

If you live anywhere near Madras, even if you don't live in District 2, please try to attend this event to support Rep Bynum for showing up when Cliff Bentz won't, as well as to learn about how severely the Big Bad Budget Bill is going to impact healthcare in rural Oregon. And share this information with others. Bentz has betrayed his constituents. Let's all help hold him accountable!
