Good evening! I apologize for getting quiet this past week….I am still getting to know my new home area and meeting some wonderful people. One of my favorite things in Arizona is being invited to talk on panels to help others thrive and grow.
Enough about that….let’s talk about:

Low Glycemic Foods

Focusing on improving health usually entails dieting, exercising, seeing a doctor, therapy, etc. Dieting as a practice in modern society tends to fail with flying colors. One of the reasons, is we see "diets" as temporary and then fall back into our old routines with food choices. Our nutrition is the backbone of our health.

On average, 5 years after doing a "diet" of some sort, 80% of the lost weight is regained and illnesses return.

Instead of dieting, choosing healthier food options rather than restriction might be helpful rather than sticking with a restrictive diet. While what is healthy for you is VERY individual, there are some "healthier" choices in swapping low glycemic foods for high glycemic foods.
The Glycemic Index (GI) tells you how much a food is going to affect your blood sugar (in theory). The affect of a food on blood sugar can also be augmented by what other foods are eaten together as well.

Typically, the lower the food is on the GI, the slower your blood sugar will rise after eating the food.

However, these options will typically not change the total sugar being consumed (depending on the food choice that is chosen).

High Glycemic Foods Replaced with Lower Glycemic Foods
White Rice----> Whole Grain Rice or Ancient Grains
Instant Oatmeal--> Steel Cut Oats or Chia Seed Pudding
Corn----> Riced Broccoli or Cauliflower
White Bread-> Sprouted Whole-Grain Bread or Sourdough Bread
