The holiday season is a wonderful time of year, but all the festivities can be difficult for some children. Over the next week, I’ll share some ideas that might make your family’s holiday a little easier.
I often have a very romantic idea in my head of how I want the holiday to go (everyone is happy, the food is great, we sing songs, everyone loves their gifts—basically a Hallmark movie in my home). Reality doesn’t really look like that, and that is ok. Remember if your child doesn’t want to participate, it’s not a reflection of your parenting skills.
Just as it’s important to teach our children flexibility, we need to model it. And what better time than when we are celebrating love and peace to listen to our children and honor their individuality.
