As comes to a close, we’re reminded that organ donation is more than a statistic – it’s personal. 💙

Across our hospitals, we’ve seen the life-changing impact of donation through patients waiting for a second chance, team members like occupational therapist Amanda Kuzo awaiting a kidney transplant, and employees like Wendy Lucas, who chose to become a living kidney donor.

More than 100,000 people nationwide are waiting for a transplant, including thousands right here in our region. One decision can save lives and bring hope to families facing the unimaginable.

Thank you to everyone who helped raise awareness this month and to those who have chosen to register as organ donors. Your generosity has the power to change lives.

Lab Week Spotlight! 🧪 With nearly 30 years of experience, Glady brings adaptability, dedication, and knowledge to her role as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Phoenixville Hospital. From hematology and the blood bank to microbiology, and supporting the chemistry team in a lead role, she helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. 🔬

“We’re always busy,” said Glady. “You’re covering different departments, making sure everything’s running, and putting out accurate results.”

When Glady started out in healthcare, she originally planned to pursue nursing. After being introduced to laboratory science by a relative, she found it was the right fit, allowing her to play an important role in patient care behind the scenes.

Even without direct patient interaction, her impact is significant. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 70% of medical decisions are based on laboratory test results.

One of the most interesting parts of her role is the problem-solving aspect. “Sometimes, you look under a microscope and you figure something out and start connecting things,” said Glady. 🔍

After nearly three decades, it’s clear that Glady enjoys the important role she plays – quietly but critically – helping patients get the answers they need. 👏

🦈 “Hello, Sharks, we’re back for the second annual Shark Tank: Tower Health Edition, and our teams have some big ideas. Ready to dive in?”

Yesterday, eight teams from across our organization came together to share creative and innovative solutions that focused on improving patient care, supporting our workforce, and strengthening how we operate day to day.

After thoughtful presentations from our staff and tough decisions from our Sharks, three teams rose to the top:

🥇 First Place: The Perfect Pair
This team introduced a reusable insert for glove dispensers to reduce waste, lower costs, and make supplies easier to access.

🥈 Second Place: Warm Welcome Preemie Patrol
This team’s idea focused on our tiniest patients in the NICU, introducing a fluid IV warmer to ensure newborns can receive critical fluids faster.

🥉 Third Place: The Tele Hunters
This team proposed a tracking system to help staff quickly locate important equipment, saving time and helping care run more smoothly.

As a special highlight, our first-place winners also had the opportunity to meet Shark Tank judge Robert Herjavec at Reading Area Community College!

Thank you to all eight finalist teams for sharing your ideas, your research, your creativity, and your passion!
