Deeper Roots Physical Therapy

Deeper Roots Physical Therapy Physical Therapy for Pickens County and Upstate SC. Located in Willow Retreat Wellness Center

I graduated from Mount Saint Mary's University in October 2014 with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and have been practicing PT ever since. I moved to Upstate South Carolina in 2017 and worked in Clemson for 6 years before deciding to open my own practice so that I can be closer to home and family. I love yoga, being in the water, working out, trying new food, and loving on my family and dogs!

Alignment of the hip, knee, and ankle is imperative for lower limb health and contributes to healthy muscles and joints up the spine as well.

If we look at these examples from my sweet girl, SGH. We can see that her knee is pointed in the same direction that her toes are pointed. She distributes her weight through the whole foot, and she is getting good glute firing by shifting her hips back.

This alignment allows for better absorption of force when landing from a jump/hop or when running or playing sports.

Special thanks to SGH for having fun playing hopscotch today and being a good model.

I recently was told about Physiobot.io, and I was curious about how well it works. I decided to try it for myself based on some pains that I've had myself in the past. Below I will summarize and offer my insight for this AI Physical Therapy program.

1. Options include low back and knee only.
2. AI begins with asking subjective questions regarding pain using multiple choice answers to guide the next questions.
3. Based on answers, the AI provides a "best match diagnosis"
4. Based on the diagnosis, education is provided on stretching, exercises, evaluation of evidence for various treatments, etc.
5. Offers for in clinic and telehealth Physical Therapy if desired.

There are definitely some positives and negatives to the AI Therapy platform. I appreciate that it was made by a Physical Therapist, and I appreciate that it doesn't claim to replace one on one care with a PT.

The diagnosis for me was accurate. However the low back evaluation is limited by its focus on common pain patterns. In terms of the lumbar spine, there are so many patterns and schools of thought for origin of pain. I understand limiting this to one of the most prevalent, but one should understand that it may not fit all. I do like that it asks red flag questions associated with more emergent diagnoses.

Providing education and best practices based on evidence based guidelines is spot on! These are, once again, based on the diagnosis I received. The exercises provided were also accurate, however only 5 exercises were provided and they consist of the most basic movements meant for the first visit or two. Progression of exercises is not present, and exercise dosage is fair.

Overall, I think Physiobot.io is a fair program for immediate concerns and education, but it is incomplete on treatment.

Rolling mechanics is something I have thought a lot about since PT school. I've always wanted to incorporate this into treatments, but never really had the space or time for in the clinic.

I think rolling is so important because it let's us know where we are weak, where we are asymmetrical. This is where we work on evening out these differences.

Watch the video! Try it out! Are you symmetrical? Can you complete the roll?
