Dillard Memorial Funeral Home & Hillcrest Memorial Park are here to help your family during the loss of a loved one. Our compassionate, professional staff members understand the decisions that families face and will help you to create a memorable service for your loved one. In 1991, we became the first funeral home and cemetery location in Pickens County, which allows us to provide you with additional convenience in funeral and cemetery planning. We have proudly served the families of Pickens, South Carolina, for generations. Dillard Funeral Home was established as Clayton-Dillard Funeral Home in 1933 by F. Van Clayton and Austin Dillard. In 1962, the Dillard family purchased the funeral home from the Claytons and renamed it Dillard Funeral Home. It was at that time that Austin’s son, Jim Dillard, joined the family business. In the early 1970s, the funeral home moved from its original Pendleton Street location to North Catherine Street, and in 1987 Jim’s daughter, Ginger Dillard Selby, became part of the funeral home staff. Dillard relocated again in 1991—this time to 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, adjacent to Hillcrest Memorial Park, where families can conveniently plan all their final needs. The funeral home is housed in a beautiful 14,000-square-foot facility, and a separate building houses an on-site crematory and crematory chapel. Other amenities available at Dillard include four visitation rooms, two arrangement rooms and a large chapel with seating for 300 guests. The beautiful Hillcrest Memorial Park was chartered in 1951 and retains sufficient undeveloped property to ensure development for generations to come. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hillcrest has been known as Pickens County’s finest burial estates since its inception. We host many community and holiday events throughout the year such as the annual Christmas Luminary and Memorial Tree program. A wide range of burial options is available within our beautifully landscaped grounds, including traditional ground burial, chapel and garden mausoleum entombment and lawn crypts, as well as private burial estates and family mausoleums. For those who choose cremation, we offer ground inurnment, mausoleum niches, an ossuary and cremation benches. We pay tribute to our veterans in a special Garden of Honor, where those who have served our country can be interred. With Dillard Memorial Funeral Home located on the grounds of Hillcrest Memorial Park, we are one of the finest and most convenient choices for South Carolina families. We are proud members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, offering quality, compassionate care and service you can trust.

Maredo Kelley McDonald
February 24, 1931 — December 18, 2025
Bluffton
Maredo McDonald, 94, passed peacefully and went to be with the Lord on December 18th following her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Maredo was born in Greenville, South Carolina. A graduate of Liberty High School and Furman University, she was a retired schoolteacher of 32 years, teaching second, third and fourth grade at Pacolet Elementary and Pacolet Middle (Pacolet, SC) and first grade at Wright School (Belton, SC). Maredo was a devoted teacher who genuinely cared for the learning development of each of her students and their well-being.
Affectionally known as “Skip”, she married the love of her life Wilcey McDonald while a senior at Furman. He was a teacher, football and baseball coach and together they enjoyed educational careers, countless sporting events, tending to their abundant garden and special times at the Isle of Palms with family and friends. They were married 44 years until his death in 1996.
In 1997, Maredo moved to the Lowcountry to live closer to her daughter, son-in-law and new grandbaby, Addy, who became the light of her life. “Grammy” was instrumental in helping raise her and the two remained inseparable throughout her childhood and adult years. In recent years, Addy and Kwyn’s son, Everett, brought her immense joy as a great grandmother. As a resident of Sun City for 25 years, her home was known for gorgeous flower beds surrounded by wonderful neighbors. You would often find her in the kitchen baking her famous pound cake and hear her beautiful singing voice accompanied by the piano. We will always cherish her life lessons, silly sayings and memories shared.
Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of Baptist churches in Pacolet, Honea Path and Bluffton. For the last ten years, she was a member of The Church of the Cross.
Maredo was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Nina G. Kelley. She is survived by her loving daughter Maurisa Grace and husband Michael of Bluffton; granddaughter Addison Grace Pinckney (Kwyn) of Okatie, and great-grandson Everett Pinckney; sister Zoe Whitlock of Liberty, SC, brother-in-law Leon McDonald of Sumter, SC; four nieces and one nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister Grace Price.
The family is grateful for the caregivers at The Pines, The Palmettos and Crescent Hospice.
A memorial service and entombment will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 11:30am at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, South Carolina.
