Nurses Week Spotlight: Christanna, RN and Director of Nursing

What inspired you to become a nurse?
In high school, Christanna worked as a CNA in a small rural town because she didn’t want to work at the chicken farm, and local grocery stores and mini marts often hired family or friends. Through that experience, she discovered how much she loved caring for others, which inspired her to continue her journey into nursing.

How long have you been in nursing?
27 years.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Getting to know residents, making them smile, and brightening their day.

What is the most rewarding moment you’ve had as a nurse?
The most rewarding moments for Christanna are when families, residents, and coworkers acknowledge the hard work and dedication she has put forth to excel in her career.

What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
Christanna originally did not want to become a nurse or work as a CNA. After high school, she planned to become a radiologist before discovering her passion for nursing.

Nurses Week Spotlight: Jody, LPN

What inspired you to become a nurse?
I worked as a CNA at the Osmond Hospital throughout high school. After I got married, I continued working at the nursing home in Pierce. The administrator at the time, Jan Zierke, was a big influence on me. At every staff meeting, she encouraged us to go back to school and earn our degrees. Her support and motivation played a major role in my decision to become an LPN. I’ve also always loved caring for people.

How long have you been in nursing?
I’ve been in nursing for 35 years. Over that time, I’ve worked in Pierce, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and with Norfolk Medical Group.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I truly enjoy all aspects of my job—working with residents, their families, and my coworkers.

What is the most rewarding moment you've had as a nurse?
One of the most rewarding experiences is when I run into family members of patients I’ve cared for, and they recognize me and thank me for the care I provided to them or their loved one. Those moments mean a lot.

What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I come from a big family—I have eight siblings: one brother and seven sisters.
