Let's talk about "Chute Etiquette" and keeping it clean! 🧼🚿

We all want the best data possible, but a great scan starts long before the image pops up on the screen. To keep things running smoothly and your equipment in top shape, remember these four rules:

Save the Blades: Always blow out the dirt before you start clipping. Dirt and clipper blades are not friends! 🚫⏳

The Extra Mile: If there’s a winter coat that won’t quit, blow, clip, and blow again. A clean surface makes all the difference.

Bio-Security Basics: Use the breeder's curry comb instead of yours. It’s the easiest way to make sure the only thing you’re moving from farm to farm is great data.

Hold Steady: Above all else, maintain good contact. The best lab tech in the world can’t see through air gaps!

Precision is the goal - cleanliness is the way to get there!

New stop on the schedule? Don’t forget the golden rule: No Weigh, No Play. ⚖️📱

We know that the scanning is only half the battle. To keep those breed association records valid, weights need to be collected within +/- 7 days of the scan. Make sure to tare the scale every once in a while and keep under the scale clean of manure. In the cold temps it can be hard to keep the scale accurate!

Before you roll out to a new location, confirm they’ve got a scale ready to go. Let’s make sure the data we collect is as accurate as the images you’re taking! 🔍📈

📢 Is your paperwork knowledge up to date? 📝

Accuracy at the chute is only half the battle - making sure your data meets specific breed association requirements is what gets those results into the books! To make things easier for our technicians and producers, we’ve updated our in-depth requirements document.

This PDF covers the most common associations we work with and includes everything you need to know before the first heifer enters the chute.

Kenzie says ”Put your coats on!!”

If you’re heading out into the frost, take note of these technician-tested hacks:
- Place your oil and standoff pad in a box turned on its side. Cover the top with a bath towel to trap the heat (it also makes a great hand-warmer between heifers!).
- Switch to canola oil - it has a lower freezing point than vegetable oil and stays fluid longer in the cold.
- Stand on a rubber mat to keep your feet off the frozen concrete and add an extra layer of protection for your probe.
- Use gel pens! Standard ballpoints usually give up once the temperature drops.

Stay warm out there! 🧤

Kenzie says ”Put your coats on!!”

It sure is cold out there! We asked our veteran technician Sam for her best tips on keeping the gear (and yourself) running smoothly when the temperature drops!

1️⃣ Insulate Your Supplies: Put your oil and standoff pad in a box on its side. Use a bath towel over the top to retain heat - it’s a simple way to keep your supplies ready to use and your hands warm.
2️⃣ Pro-tip - canola oil doesn't freeze as fast as vegetable oil. It’s a small change that makes a big difference in sub-zero temps.
3️⃣ Stand on a rubber mat. It keeps your feet warmer than standing on frozen ground or concrete, and it provides a "safety net" if you happen to drop your probe.
4️⃣ Keep some gel pens in your pocket. They won’t freeze up on you like standard pens do.

Bundle up and stay warm out there!
