This was my 🥕bag of chips….
I was that kid who spent lots of time with my grandparents who were raised in the south, but decided to raised their families in the Park Heights community of Baltimore.
Here’s the rundown:
🥕Great grandma had a garden in her backyard where I picked collard greens and snapped green beans.
🥕Paternal Granddad always brought me bags of carrots on visits and his collards greens were better than the mamas. (I challenged him that one day my greens would be better…lol)
🥕Maternal Grandma kept me in the kitchen eating raw veggies and taught me how to cook.
🥕 Paternal Grandma was a lead cook at “Yellow Bowl” and then “The Roost.” Because she cooked for a living, she took me to the nicest restaurants for 3 course meals always starting with a tossed salad.
The irony of the healthy habits they instilled in me, they were all affected by one or more chronic illness. Three out of the four are no longer with me, but I carry their wisdom while enjoying as many moments as possible with my paternal grandma. 🥰
Moral of the story: we can shift generational health, one healthy experience at a time.
