Cervical traction is a treatment used in physical therapy to gently stretch the neck. This stretching creates a small amount of space between the bones in your neck (vertebrae), which can take pressure off the discs, joints, and nerves.
Many people experience neck pain because of tight muscles, irritated joints, or compressed nerves. Cervical traction helps by relaxing the muscles and reducing pressure in the neck.
Patients often find that traction can help with:
*Neck pain and stiffness
*Headaches related to neck tension
*Arm pain or tingling caused by nerve irritation
*Disc problems in the neck
Traction can be done by a physical therapist using their hands or with a specialized traction device. The treatment is gentle, controlled, and tailored to each patient’s comfort level.
