How much of my child’s speech should I be able to understand?

Speech intelligibility refers to how much of a child’s speech a listener understands. Parents can typically understand their child’s speech better than unfamiliar listeners can. By 2 years old, parents should be able to understand their child’s speech 50-75% of the time, and 75-100% of the time by 3 years of age.
