Squad 86 had the opportunity to standby and display what the Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad is all about today at the NC HOSA Regional Event held at Pilot Mountain Middle School today.
Students from all around assembled to compete and showcase their skills and talents.
It was a true honor to be able to speak toward the importance of volunteering and making a difference, even at a young age, in your community.

We are extremely proud of all these future medical professionals and experts and wish them all the best in their academic and medical careers ahead! Big things will come from this group of young people!

The Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad is happy to announce that the 55th Annual Pilot Mountain Christmas Parade registration process is underway! We are excited for this years parade happening on December 6th, 2025 @ 6pm.

To register:
* Visit our website at pilotmtnrescue.org or our social media post
* Once you click the “2025 Parade Link” you will be directed to a google form for registration
* Follow the prompts and fully acknowledge the 2025 parade rules
* Once you have completed the form, a registration confirmation message will be seen
* A Venmo payment request will be sent to the email provided on your registration form
* If you do not have Venmo, you can bring exact cash and pay at the gate the day of the parade

The deadline to register will be Wednesday December 3rd!

This morning, at approximately 1:30 AM, Squad 86 was dispatched along with several other departments to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor and trailer with a possible patient trapped and pinned in the vehicle.

Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the patient was pinned down in the vehicle and would require a lengthy extrication.
Rescue personnel worked diligently to free the patient and greatly accomplished such, allowing for a quick transition to emergency medical care and a ride in “The Bird”

A wonderful job well done by all departments involved and we pray for a speedy recovery for the driver of the truck

We at the Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad would like to stop and take a moment to recognize and thank the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) for awarding us a $15,000 grant in reference to Squad 86’s deployment into Western NC during Hurricane Helene.

Following the devastating effects and impact of Hurricane Helene, the NCCF took quick action to support relief efforts and enhance recovery efforts, including supporting and funding our own mission making sure departments had access to all means necessary for success.

We greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve our communities and the willingness of the NCCF and those abroad who give back to make rescue and recovery missions possible.

You will never know just how many lives you have impacted just through your support!

The awarded grant funds will go towards an even more enhanced response for our local community in regards to rescue operations involving mountain rescue efforts, water rescue efforts and on-scene working efforts.

Once again, THANK YOU North Carolina Community Foundation and the Surry County Community Foundation for your continued support of local rescue! Please continue to keep Western NC in your prayers as they rebuild stronger each day.
