Mrs. Thelma Harris 98 of Tarry, Arkansas departed this earthly life on October 22, 2025. She was born on April 14, 1927, in Sherrill, AR to the late Eligah and Beulah Price. Mrs. Harris accepted Christ at an early age at Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church in Tarry, Arkansas. In her early twenties, she obtained her beautician’s license from Deluxe Beauty School in Pine Bluff, where she worked as a beautician for several years. She later united in Holy Matrimony with the late Reverend Odis E. Harris. Following their marriage, the couple relocated to Flint Michigan where they built a life together for more than 30 years before returning home to Tarry, Arkansas.

After moving to Flint, Michigan, Mrs. Harris united with the New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend W.G. Terry. During her time there, she served faithfully as a Deaconess, working diligently and assisted wherever she was needed within the ministry. She remained a devoted and active member until returning home to Tarry, Arkansas, where she rejoined Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Silas Easterling. Several years later Reverend William A. Neal became her pastor. Under his leadership, Mrs. Harris continued to serve faithfully- as a choir member, a Deaconess, and a Minister’s Wife, always demonstrating her love for God and her commitment to serving others.

Mrs. Harris was well known both within and beyond her community. She was a woman of many talents- skilled sewing, pressing and styling hair, and visiting the sick and elderly- but she was best known for her cooking. Anyone who visited her home could always count on being offered a delicious meal and engaging in a warm conversation, always centered around her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mrs. Harris never missed an opportunity to share her faith. Her love for the Lord wasn’t limited just to Sundays; it was reflected in her daily routine, even in television programs she chose to watch. She faithfully tuned in to the Jimmy Swaggart Network, where she found great encouragement through the preaching of the Word and the uplifting choir music. She dearly loved to hear others sing but she also had a passion for singing herself. One of her favorite hymns to lead in church was “Is Your All on the Alter”.

Mrs. Harris was a caring, compassionate, and genuine woman whose love for others touched countless lives. She carried herself with grace, class, kindness, and a giving spirit that made everyone feel welcome in her presence. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Rev. Odis. E Harris; her loving parents, Eligah and Beulah Price; one sister, Bertha Lee Edwards; three brothers - Hosea Price, Sr., Clyde Hollins, and Willie H. Price; and a special great-nephew, Michael Jenkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sister, Shirley Clark of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a beloved sister-in-law, Oleta Patterson of Tarry, Arkansas; and a special niece, Darlene Young of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, cousins and many extended family members and friends who will forever remember her love, kindness, and wisdom.

10/21/2025

Mr. Johnny Lee Whitiker was born on December 28, 1952, in Tarry, Arkansas, to Willie Sr. and Vera Lee Whitiker.

Johnny was quiet and laid back — but don’t let that fool you. He had a sneaky side, the kind that made you laugh later once you realized he’d pulled one over on you. If you took your eyes off him for too long, chances are he already had them in his pocket.

He loved his music. When a good song came on, you could catch him singing along — and if the beat hit just right, he’d even break into a little dance. But Johnny’s true passions were simple and pure: eating and sleeping. And if you knew Johnny, you knew he never turned down a cold soda pop.

One thing about him — don’t touch his stuff. That was a quick way to see that quiet side turn serious! But underneath that was a man full of life, humor, and his own rhythm.

Johnny will be truly missed and forever loved by his family, his extended family, and all who were lucky enough to experience him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Sr. and Vera Lee Whitiker; three sisters, Rosie Lee Whitiker, Willie B. Whitiker, and Linda Fay Whitiker; and two brothers, Odester Whitiker and Tonnie Whitiker.

Those left to cherish his precious memory are his five brothers — Julian (Pauline) Whitiker, Willie Whitiker Jr., and Reverend Lee R. Whitiker, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Leander (Lue Ann) Whitiker of West Memphis, Arkansas; and Clem A. Whitiker of Gould, Arkansas. He also leaves behind two sisters — Lonzetta (Lester) Price and Yuarly (Kevin) Pryor — along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will continue to carry his spirit forward.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home Pine Bluff, AR by Rev. Lee Whitiker. Interment in Bright Star Cemetery Tarry, AR by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, AR.

10/14/2025

Shirley Stein (Hudson) Richards was born on January 5, 1951, in Cornerstone, Arkansas, to the late Deacon L.V. Hudson, Sr., and the late Mother Ruth Naomi (Taylor) Hudson.

She was a proud 1969 graduate of Altheimer High School and went on to attend Arkansas AM&N. Later, she graduated from Williams Beauty School, where she discovered her lifelong passion for cosmetology.

Shirley began her professional journey at Timex Corporation in Little Rock, where she worked faithfully for 14 years.

A masterful beautician for more than 40 years, Shirley opened Shirley’s Beauty Salon in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1994, where she served as both owner and operator. The beauty shop became her “stage,” a place where she uplifted, encouraged, and inspired everyone who walked through her doors. From open to close, people would often stop by—not just for a style, but to laugh, talk, and share life with Ms. Shirley.

A true entrepreneur at heart, Shirley successfully managed several business ventures after her time at Timex. She continued the vision of Mr. Sam Cook (originator) by taking over the Blues Fest beginning in 1999, which first began in Pine Bluff and later moved to Altheimer; bringing together music, culture, and community. She was the sole-proprietor of the All New Duck Inn Chateau and Lounge. She also owned rental properties and worked at Walmart until her transition.

One of Shirley’s greatest joys was making sure others never went without. She often shared food unexpectedly and gave away clothing to those in need. During the holidays, she provided meals to family, friends, and neighbors, ensuring everyone felt cared for. Shirley was also one of the fastest cooks around, and her famous “hot spaghetti” was always a family and friends’ favorite!

In 1971, Shirley welcomed her cherished daughter, Kecia Necole Hudson, into the world.

Shirley shared over 20 years of companionship with Mr. Samson Cook, Sr., a relationship grounded in love and friendship until his passing.

On June 10, 2002, she found love again and married Mr. Lonnie Lee Richards, to whom she was a devoted and faithful wife until his passing on October 4, 2011.

From an early age, Shirley was rooted in faith. She was a lifelong member of Mason Temple Church of God in Christ in Altheimer, Arkansas, where she served under the leadership of Elder W.M. Pullen, Elder George Alexander, Elder L.R. Collins, Superintendent Lawrence O’Neal, Pastor Karl Barnes, and Pastor Louie Robinson, Jr.

At Mason Temple, she served faithfully on the Trustee Board, sang in the Youth Choir, and later succeeded the late Missionary Burnestine Starks as Supervisor of the Hospitality Committee. Shirley was known for spearheading many benefit programs to support the church she loved so dearly. She also attended Bible Study at First Trinity Church of God in Christ in Pine Bluff, where she continued to grow in her faith.

Shirley was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Mr. Samson Cook, Sr.; her husband, Lonnie Lee Richards; her parents; four sisters, Lucille Custard, Ruthie Mae Hudson, Evelyn Hudson, and Maxine Williams; and one brother, L.V. Hudson, Jr.

She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughter, Kecia (Percy) Hudson-Winston, of Red Oak, Texas; the nephew she loved like a son, Rickey (Shaunta) Hudson, of Little Rock, Arkansas; their son, Dantrell (Lucy) Wilkins, of Little Rock, Arkansas; their daughter, Danielle Hudson, of Little Rock, Arkansas; two grandsons, Toney and Darius Winston, of Red Oak, Texas; four granddaughters, KeAndra Mason, of Richardson, Texas; KeAira Mason and Jasmine Winston, both of Red Oak, Texas; and Madelynn Winston, of Nacogdoches, Texas. She is also survived by three great-grandsons, Michael, Kayden, and Messiah; six great-nephews, Dantrell Jr. (DJ), Brycen, Tyrelle, Mason, Kennedy III, and Kaiden; one great-niece, Laila; one brother, Charles (Judy) Hudson, of Los Angeles, California; one sister, First Lady Alma Faye (Bishop Bill) McDonnell, of North Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Shirley will be remembered for her warm spirit, unwavering faith, entrepreneurial drive, and her gift for making everyone she met feel loved, seen, and uplifted. Her legacy of strength, grace, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home Pine Bluff, AR.
