SCI AHEC goal is to improve health by recruiting, educating and retaining healthcare professionals for underserved communities in Indiana.

❄️ It was a cold day for a college visit, but we got to spend a great day with West Washington Senators at University of Louisville! Did you know that U of L offers in-state tutition for some qualifying southern Indiana counties?

We had the opportunity to partner with Indiana University Interprofessional Practice And Education Center and Indiana University Southeast nursing students learning about “Breaking the Cycle of Addiction”.

Students were able to hear from different panelist from their community about the struggles of people in addiction and listen to a member of the community who lived the experience.

Thank you to all who made this experience happen! This is the future of healthcare.

This past Thursday, AHEC hosted a Health Expo for over 200 health science students, representing 6 high schools! Students had the opportunity to learn about various health profession pathways, including Mental Health, Public Health, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiation Therapy, and Medical Laboratory Science. Over 8 organizations participated in tabling and presenting at the event!

We couldn’t do this without our amazing partners and schools, so thank you to all those who helped make this happen for our students and future health professionals!

Today we partnered with IU School of a Public Health and Circles of Indianapolis to host our very first poverty simulation!

We had a group of health professionals and health professional students work together to understand the life of poverty and the struggle that one may feel.

What a true humbling experience!

Schneck Health Career Discovery Program is going on this week! SCI AHEC has been a partner for this program for many years and Schneck always puts on a great presentation about different opportunities they offer for students and for future health professionals!

Another great day to spend with the AHEC scholars, training them in Youth Mental Health! This is what the program is about, learning more beyond your everyday classroom experience.

These health students will have better knowledge on how to help our youth and ways to make our community better!

Sarah Basset is our next AHEC Spotlight! She is a third-year medical student at Indiana University.

"I think this program provides information that all individuals can carry forward into their careers whether they end up in a healthcare field or not. Participation allows another avenue to expand empathy and understanding for groups which you may not have much interaction with right now.
