🎁 🎄 📚 🧸 An amazing gift...

We were overwhelmed this week to see how members of our community supported the recent book drive at Books-A-Million in Southern Pines. The store collected items worth more than $22,000.

They dropped the games, books and toys off at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital this week, making sure that pediatric patients across the FirstHealth system will receive a little extra comfort this holiday season.

To everyone who donated, we say THANK YOU!

10,000 surgeries....and we're just getting started!

Our system has now completed 10,000 surgeries with the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, reaching a milestone that reflects our commitment to providing the best possible care to our patients. FirstHealth is one of just five hospitals in North Carolina to offer the da Vinci 5 surgical system.

FirstHealth acquired the system in 2007 to provide patients with the most up-to-date surgical technology. It is designed to assist surgeons in performing minimally invasive surgeries, offering enhanced precision and control. It includes 3D high-definition imaging and flexible robotic arms.

Congratulations to Jennifer Hernandez!

We are proud to announce that FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital nurse Jennifer Hernandez, R.N., has received the DAISY Award for going above and beyond to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Hernandez, who cares for patients on 1 Medical at MRH, was nominated by a family member of a patient who came to the hospital.

“I stayed with my mom throughout the day and night, and I witnessed firsthand Jennifer’s calm, helpful and supportive approach,” the family member wrote. “She was consistently thorough in explaining each step of the care process and made sure we understood what was happening. Her professionalism was matched by a genuine kindness and compassion that made a difficult time more manageable.”

The family member said Hernandez kept her mother’s best interests in mind.

“Jennifer’s dedication to her patients is evident and she was always willing to answer questions or find us an answer,” they wrote. “I’m so grateful she went above and beyond. She is a remarkable nurse.”

Susan Taylor, R.N., Nurse Manager on 1 Medical, said Hernandez always advocates for each patient.

“Jennifer strives to deliver exceptional patient care and always remains professional. She goes above and beyond to make patients and families feel supported, and it is evident in the care she delivers that she genuinely cares for people. Jennifer is a true blessing to FirstHealth,” Taylor said.

Leading with compassion...

Congratulations to nurse Erin King, R.N., the latest winner of the DAISY Award recognizing nurses who go above and beyond in delivering patient-centered care. King, who cares for patients on 4Medical at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, was nominated by the family member of a patient who came to the hospital in May 2025.

“My mother has never been a compliant patient – she is difficult and cantankerous toward all…I warned Erin that my mom could be a handful and she said not to worry,” the family member wrote. “Erin was masterful in her approach. She used humor, smiled and said ‘I got you’ to my mom. She broke the fear.”

The family member said King’s approach made the hospital stay easy for her and her mother. “Erin is a seasoned nurse who intuitively and compassionately met my mother where she needed to be met. This cannot be taught in nursing school – a great nurse gets it,” the family member said.

“I don't know how to describe it. Erin's skillset goes beyond nursing. She was wonderful in helping my mother navigate making good decisions about her health and she treated her with dignity and respect. I am forever grateful.”
