EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT | April is Occupational Therapy Month. Throughout the month, we are going to be highlighting the work of some of our wonderful OTs here at FirstHealth. Meet Heather Dill Litts, one of our OTs who provides care in both outpatient and acute care settings.

Since joining FirstHealth Rehabilitation in 2018, she has focused heavily on lymphedema management and helped develop and expand the Lymphedema Program at the FirstHealth Outpatient Raeford Clinic. She maintains certifications in LSVT BIG for Parkinson’s Disease, Dry Needling (DN1) and Wound Care (WCC).

"I was drawn to a career in occupational therapy after working as an equine veterinary technician and volunteering with a hippotherapy program," she said. "Through these experiences, I observed individuals of all ages and abilities make meaningful gains in strength, coordination, motor control and cognitive skills while utilizing horses and other animals, as both a therapeutic tool and catalyst for functional improvement. Witnessing the profound impact of movement‑based, client‑centered interventions reinforced my desire to pursue occupational therapy as a profession."

Heather works at the FirstHealth outpatient clinics in both Raeford and Pinehurst (Aviemore Drive), as well as within acute care at FirstHealth hospitals in Hoke, Moore and Richmond. Her dual role allows her to maintain continuity of care across settings while addressing a wide range of functional and medical needs.

🫀 600 AND COUNTING! Yesterday was a big day for our care team at Reid Heart Center as we completed our 600th WATCHMAN procedure. This is an important milestone for our entire care team, and we want to recognize the efforts of electrophysiologists Mark Landers, M.D. with FirstHealth Cardiology, and Ker Boyce, M.D., Joan Maradey, M.D. and Brandon Williams, M.D., who provide patient services at FirstHealth under an agreement with Pinehurst Medical Clinic.

The WATCHMAN procedure is an alternative treatment to blood-thinning medications to prevent a stroke. It is a small, flexible implant about the size of a quarter. The implant is placed into your heart during a minimally invasive procedure and never needs to be replaced. More than 150,000 patients have received WATCHMAN, and it has a 98.8% procedural success rate.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: For Lisa Jeske, working in health care has always been rooted in one simple idea: caring for people.

Since joining FirstHealth in January 2023, Lisa has served patients at Convenient Care in Sanford, bringing compassion and a broad range of clinical experience to every interaction. Her path to FirstHealth was personal. Her daughter, also part of the Convenient Care team, spoke so highly of FirstHealth that Lisa knew it was a place she wanted to be.

Lisa’s passion for caregiving began early, spending time as a teenager sitting with elderly women to give their families a much-needed break. She went on to attend nursing school in New York and later explored surgical technology. While she enjoyed the technical side of surgery, she missed connecting with patients and seeing their progress over time.

Originally from upstate New York, Lisa’s journey took her across the country. As part of a military family, she's lived in Hawaii and Colorado, where she gained experience working in home health, substance use disorder treatment, dialysis, primary care, labor and delivery and Veterans Health Administration. She ultimately made her way to North Carolina in 2023 to be closer to family and welcome her first grandson. Lisa said what she enjoys most about her job is simple but meaningful, "it’s taking care of patients."

Outside of work, Lisa is an avid runner and has completed multiple marathons, half marathons and 5Ks. She also enjoys hiking and spending time at the beach, where she finds peace listening to the waves and searching for shells. She’s a proud mom of four grown children, grandmother of two and dog lover with four dogs ranging in size from a Chihuahua to a Great Pyrenees puppy.

Hands‑on learning for the hands that care the most 💕

Our Women & Children's care teams took part today in a nursing skills fair, giving them a chance to sharpen clinical skills, reinforce best practices and collaborate across teams in a hands-on environment.
