Reverend Dr. Kevin Arthur Wardlaw, PhD, beloved husband, father, brother, pastor, chaplain, teacher, and friend, entered eternal rest on December 5, 2025, after a courageous and faith-filled journey with ALS. He faced his illness with the same grace, honesty, and spiritual depth that shaped his life and ministry, trusting fully in the God who had shepherded him from childhood and now welcomed him home.

Kevin was born on April 29, 1958, in Queens, New York, one of five children born to William R. Wardlaw and Marie Gellineau Wardlaw. He was a twin—an identity that shaped him profoundly—and he cherished a lifelong bond with his brother Ken. Raised in a loving and lively family, Kevin learned early the values of compassion, curiosity, humor, and perseverance. Those values remained with him throughout his life and became the bedrock of his life and ministry.

Kevin’s calling to ministry unfolded gradually but unmistakably. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and later completed a Master of Arts in Theology from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. His hunger for deeper understanding led him to Claremont School of Theology, where he earned both a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Philosophy in Practical Theology. His doctoral work explored the profound spiritual experiences that unfold at the end of life—research that would shape his pastoral identity for decades to come.

He was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served congregations with humility, scholarship, and joy. Yet it was in the ministry of chaplaincy—particularly hospice chaplaincy—where Kevin discovered the heart of his vocation. For seventeen years, he served as a hospice chaplain in Tampa Bay, becoming a trusted presence at thousands of bedsides. With gentleness, humor, and deep reverence for the “personhood” of those in his care, Kevin shepherded more than 100,000 persons as they journeyed from this life into the next. He often said that his ministry was not about answers but about presence: listening, honoring, blessing, and creating space for God to speak in the silence.

Kevin was also a gifted teacher, playwright, and storyteller. He taught courses in ethics, theology, and pastoral care; wrote plays exploring faith and human frailty; and mentored countless students, colleagues, and chaplains. His ministry extended beyond words—into music, laughter, shared meals, quiet prayers, and the sacred work of simply sitting beside someone who was afraid, lonely, or ready to let go.

His final year brought unexpected suffering through the progression of ALS, yet Kevin continued to radiate faith, gratitude, humor, and hope. He met each loss with remarkable courage, surrounded by the love and devotion of his wife, Nevada, who cared for him faithfully and tenderly. Their marriage was a witness to steadfast love, partnership, and grace.

Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie Wardlaw, and by his sister Sabira (Patricia). He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Nevada; his daughters Jennifer and Jocelyn, and their mother Kim; his granddaughter Georgia Rose; his twin brother Ken and his wife Debbie; his brother William and his wife Dr. Rosemarie Newman, MD; his brother Charles and his wife Sonia Jaipaul; eight nephews—Kweku, Kwame, Trevor, Harrison, Kenny, Ariel, Shakir, and Akin; eight nieces—Tracie, Afua, Abena, Muslima, Adzua, Katie, Rana, and Aurora; and a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, extended family, colleagues, and the many lives he touched through his compassionate ministry.

Reverend Dr. Kevin Arthur Wardlaw lived a life of faithfulness, scholarship, humor, and deep compassion. He walked gently with the dying, uplifted the weary, comforted the grieving, and reminded all he met of the steadfast love of God. Though he has laid down his earthly burdens, the light he carried remains—within his family, his church, his colleagues, and the countless souls he shepherded with grace.

“Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. Both will take place at the Historic Bethel AME Church, 912 3rd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33705.

Penny Naples
August 14, 1961 – December 4, 2025

Penny (Bauwens) Naples, age 64, of Pinellas Park, passed away at home on December 4, 2025.

Born in Peoria, IL, Penny moved with her family to Florida in 1970. She graduated from Pinellas Park High School, where she was a cheerleader and played the piccolo in the band. She worked at K-Mart for 20 years, serving in various roles, including Customer Service, Bakery, and Eatery. It was here she met her best friend and partner-in-crime, Laura Karlhofer.

She left K-Mart in 1993 to open her in-home daycare center, Miss Penny’s Sassy Fun Center, which she owned and operated for over 30 years. Penny played a pivotal role in the lives of the many children lucky enough to be in her care. Known to the kids as “GeeGee”, each was loved as if they were her own grandchild (and some of them were!).

Penny married her husband, Larry, in 1996. They took great joy in bringing their families together and spending time with their many grandchildren.

Penny was a spitfire who always “told it like it is”. Her children, grandchildren, and daycare children filled her heart and gave her life purpose. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Larry; her brother, Jeff; her sister, Lori; her children, Daniel (Randi) Jasmer, Christopher (Kelly) Selleck, Brian (Stephanie) Naples, and Matthew Naples; and her sweets (her grandchildren): Robert, Caleb, Layla, Kyla, Emily, Caiden, Carter, and Delilah. She is reunited in peace with her mother, Jane; her father, Dale; and her brother, Bruce.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Penny’s name to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation (https://suncoasthospicefoundation.org/donations2/). Their amazing nurses and social workers helped make an incredibly difficult process manageable.

Denver Bernard “Denny” Boyd
July 15, 1942 – November 25, 2025

Denver Bernard “Denny” Boyd, born on July 15, 1942, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, spent his childhood in Rock Spring, Georgia. His high-school years were divided between Largo, Florida, and Northwest Georgia; he attended Largo High School and later graduated from Lakeview High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, with the Class of 1960.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma Pearl Boyd (Bowman) and Denver Bernard Boyd, as well as his sister, DeAnne Huskey (Boyd).

In 1962, Denny was introduced to the love of his life, Suzanne Pilecki, a Weeki Wachee Mermaid. The two were married at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church on July 3, 1965. Together they raised four children: Christopher Boyd (Rachel Bryant, Spencer), Corey Boyd (Casey, Noah), Mandi Kelley (McKenzie Smith, Madison Tokay, Hunter Kelley), and Marci Adkinson (Josh, Will, Jillian).

He cherished his family deeply and leaves behind eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several beloved cousins, a niece, a nephew, many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, and numerous lifelong friends.

Denny proudly served in the United States Air Force beginning in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1968. After his service, he began a lifelong career at Rogers Brothers, working as a crane operator for 40 years. Throughout his career, he lifted everything from trusses to grand pianos and massive boulders, across Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco counties, and even helped construct Raymond James Stadium and rides at Busch Gardens.

After retirement, Denny found joy simply in being with his wife, his family, and his grandchildren. He was an avid NASCAR and baseball fan, especially devoted to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Denny was a proud husband of 60 years, a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a beloved friend to many. His life was marked by hard work, humor, devotion, and love—and the memories he created will be cherished forever.

July 30, 1930 – October 10, 2025

A lovely laugh, a quirky personality and a fiercely independent soul is now silenced.

Rosemarie Regina Malloy, 95, came to life July 30, 1930, in Pittsburgh PA, the first of three. She graduated Mt. Mercy College then enlisted in the Navy, serving in a women’s code-breaking team during the Korean War. Throughout she was active in the community writing and performing in dramas with the Woman’s Service League, writing and publishing poetry, rescuing strays and allowing her cherished camphor tree to be colonized by numerous neighborhood children.

Temporarily slowed by a terrible car accident in 1981, she recovered to re-begin work as a digital editor at a commercial publishing house and devoted even more time to personal writing and research into varied topics (the Civil War, WWI aviation, dinosaurs, etc.) and volunteering for the Pinellas Park library.

She is pre-deceased by her parents Bernard and Regina, brother Bernard C. Malloy and sister Eileen Malloy Howard.

Rosemarie is survived by her nephews Charles Malloy (Jody) and Scott Luebbert and her nieces Deborah Mentler and Lisa Sheldon and 7 grandnieces. We are celebrating a milestone today!
October 14, 2025, marks exactly 31 years since we opened our doors, right here on the corner of 53rd Street and Park Boulevard!
Yes, the even-numbers are usually celebrated but, at 31, we can officially say we’ve been humbly, gratefully, and proudly serving our Pinellas Park and Tampa Bay Area communities for OVER 30 years!
The old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child” is also wildly accurate for a small business. We wouldn’t still be here without the incredible and continued support of our “village,” of which, first and foremost is our families who have trusted us with taking care of their loved ones during impossible times, the various community businesses and organizations we have been supported by and are a part of, and our local community, city and county leadership.
It is an honor to be a part of this community, to see it and our families grow, through hardships and joy.
From all of us - Ed, Chris, Enoch, Brad and Jim - our continued purpose and mission, is to ensure all of you, our village, has a safe place to go, a caring voice to hear, a shoulder to lean on, when you need it most, for at least another 31 years. Thank you!
Give us a call or stop by if we can help, in any way.
