🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL 📚

Happy 1st full week of school! 🎉 We know it's a busy time - gathering supplies, making sure backpacks are packed, and preparing lunches. But is your child feeling truly ready to take on the school year?

Is your child:
- Confident with communication - able to ask questions/communicate needs, etc.
- Following directions at home and school
- Holding a pencil with ease
- Tying shoes, zipping jackets, opening lunchboxes independently
- Handling transitions without meltdowns
- Managing classroom noise or busy environments

Monday evening, we hosted our first parent session: BEE-yond the Backpack. This session was presented by Emma, an occupational therapist at Speech Buds, and Melissa, the lead speech therapist at Rapides Parish School Board JB Lafargue Special Education & Resource Center. Emma discussed how sensory needs, executive functioning, and motor skills impact learning, while Melissa provided information on IEPs and 504 planning. Our goal was to provide parents with the information they need to help get their children necessary support for the school year. Thank you to Rapides Parish Library, Martin Branch for allowing us to use their facility and for being so helpful in setting up! We are in the process of planning for more parent sessions. Please let us know in the comments what topics you'd like us to cover in future sessions!

🌹 Last but not least, we have Emma! 🌹

Emma is an occupational therapist and has been a member of our team since July of 2024! Emma shared "I am so thrilled to continue my journey with the incredible families and amazing team at Speech Buds! I believe that with patience and an open heart, we can better understand each child's unique way of experiencing the world. Helping kids grow in confidence, independence, and joy through play and connection is truly the most rewarding part of what I do. Watching a child achieve something they once struggled with—no matter how big or small—is magic. It’s the privilege to impact children’s lives that makes me so proud to be a pediatric occupational therapist! Our Speech Buds community is truly like nothing I've ever seen, and I am beyond grateful to be a part of it!!"

We love to see the creativity flow during Mrs. Emma's sessions, but mostly we love to see the selfless care she provides to not only her patients, but to her fellow therapists!

🎉🎈 Today we celebrate Andrea 🎈🎉

Join us in wishing her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Andrea “Andie” has been a practicing SLP for over 30 years, working closely with both adults and children in acute care, outpatient, and home health settings. She joined our team at the beginning of 2024, and our therapists and families have been blessed by her knowledge and expertise since. She loves working with early language, articulation, and expressive language disorders, and she has completed special trainings for Beckman Oral Motor and PROMPT.

Andie enjoys spending time with her family, baking, watching old movies, and fishing - when time allows! Help us in celebrating the wonderful birthday girl, Andie!

🌸 Time to introduce Haley! 🌸

Haley started working at Speech Buds at the end of 2023! She has been a practicing SLP for 8 years, primarily in pediatrics, serving children with a variety of speech and language disorders. Her clinical interests include early language development, articulation disorders, and phonological processing. Haley shared "working at Speech Buds is a dream come true! Our team is compassionate, caring, and collaborative. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child grow in confidence and communication, and celebrating those victories alongside their families is such a joy."

Haley enjoys spending time with her family and summers at the river. We love having Haley as part of our Speech Buds family and appreciate all the fun that she brings to the clinic!

🌺 Happy Monday - Today's introduction is for Courtney! 🌺

Courtney is an occupational therapist and the owner of Bloom Pediatric Therapy Center. She has been providing in-house occupational therapy services at Speech Buds since the Fall of 2023! She is specialized in reflex integration, sensory integration, Interactive Metronome, and pediatric feeding. She enjoys working with both children and adults, and her passion and heart for her field can be seen daily through the activities that she plans and the education that she provides. Thank you for continuing to give the best care to the families that you serve!

From baby babbles to future chatterboxes, they’re already part of the crew and we can't wait to watch them grow! 🍼
