My dear friend and former parishioner, Kate Alcantara, her husband and their six children, are asking for a miracle to heal her and bring safely their little girl into this world. They would be forever grateful if you would pray. Through the intercession of Servant to God , Niña Ruiz Abad, a 13-year-old girl from the Philippines whose motto was “God First “. They ask that God work a miracle and bring Kate and her unborn baby safely home from the hospital. (please send to your prayer groups & to your family and friends)

In Christ,
Father Hillier

My dear friends in Jesus Christ,

The Resurrection of Jesus is like no other earthly event in the history of the world. It is about the new and eternal life offered to us by Jesus. But what does Easter mean for us in this new decade - in the 2020s? More than likely we would have answered that question quite differently just a few weeks ago. Now, as we contend with the coronavirus we find ourselves like the disciples who followed Jesus that first Easter Sunday — “self-isolated” in our homes. We are isolated, not for fear of the civil or religious authorities but because civil and religious authorities asked that we remain in our homes to protect others and ourselves.

The message of Our Risen Lord, “Peace be with you,” is the same now as it was that first Easter. It means that God's love has conquered sin and will triumph over all evil including this present pandemic and every other kind of human suffering. In the end His love will defeat even death itself.

In the midst of the anxiety that we all endure now, and in the days ahead, be assured that our Risen Savior will protect and comfort you as He protected and comforted the disciples on that first Easter so long ago.

A Blessed Easter to you!

Father Hillier

Back on my birthday, March 10, 2020, my friend Msgr. Edward Puleo, asked me to compose a prayer for all who are impacted by COVID-19. With the help of God’s Holy Spirit I wrote the “Coronavirus Prayer for Hope and Courage” which I invite you to pray with me as I share this video from St. Elizabeth Church in Far Hills, New Jersey. Dear friends, Allow me to share some of my favorite prayers with you including the “Prayer for Persons with Earthly Crosses”, the “Prayer to make a Spiritual Communion” (below - previous post) and the “Coronavirus- Prayer for Courage” (below - previous post). I always like the quote from Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892): “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of ...”

Prayer for Persons with Earthly Crosses

Good and Gracious Father,
watch over us on our earthly pilgrimage
as we make our journey to you.

Bless us, and all those who struggle,
under the weight of a cross.
Make us worthy advocates and caregivers
for the voiceless and vulnerable.

Inspire us to embrace our crosses willingly.
May those wracked with pain, disability or
serious illness; or who feel misunderstood or betrayed,
use their suffering well by offering it in union
with your suffering on the cross at Calvary.

Instill within us the grace to embrace
our difficulties and hardships for love of you
and to invite others to do likewise.

Unite us to your Son, Jesus, through prayer
and sacrament, that we may cooperate
fully in your redemptive plan.
Use us in all ways, even in our suffering,
so that nothing is wasted but all is offered
for your greater honor and glory.

Amen.
