At the , training = impact! 🌟 This community-based training center is powering cross-disciplinary learning at an incredible scale—raising the bar for quality and collaboration!

As a university-based program, the DDDC has a three-part mission to provide service, training, and research to support school aged children with autism. Our training program is one of the most important ways we have a broad impact on the availability of services for individuals with autism. Each year, in addition to training undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in psychology and applied behavior analysis, the Douglass Center also provides training to many individuals in other Rutgers University programs. The training we provide, focused on working effectively with individuals with significant support needs, involves collaborations with a number of health professions. Last year alone, the Douglass Center provided training to 158 individuals. In addition to our psychology students, these individuals included psychiatry fellows, family practice residents, undergraduate linguistic students, graduate speech students, social work students, and nursing students. We are very proud of the work we do to ensure the availability of community supports for autistic individuals. Thank you to all our staff and faculty who make this training program such a success.

GSAPP Story

Since the establishment of Psychological Clinic in 1929 and the school’s founding in 1974, Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) has become the “gold standard” in the education and training of qualified and competent direct-service psychologists.

GSAPP prides itself on preparing outstanding practitioners and scholars who benefit from the mentorship provided in our doctoral programs in School Psychology and Clinical Psychology - both accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association. Relatively small class sizes afford students individualized attention and opportunities to work closely with our distinguished faculty in developing students’ professional skills and identity as practitioners and scholars. As a student at GSAPP, you will also have access to a vibrant network of successful GSAPP alumni. These relationships between faculty, students, and alumni last beyond our students' graduation as evidenced by our active and robust alumni organization.

Being an applied professional school of psychology in the 21st century, GSAPP has embraced its responsibility to prepare psychologists who are equipped to face contemporary challenges and to facilitate ongoing professional training for postgraduates and members of our community. We commit to diversity, diversity of theoretical orientations, appreciation of individual differences and preparing culturally competent students who are educated and trained in an environment that embraces and respects differences.
