- Lobster Dinner🦞

Last night brought a taste of the coast to Galloway Ridge with our annual Lobster Dinner Fundraiser!

A total of 120 lobsters were served as residents gathered in Harvest for a classic New England-inspired feast featuring creamy clam chowder, lobster, coleslaw, potato wedges, and key lime pie. The room was filled with conversation, laughter, and the unmistakable aroma of a true seaside tradition.

Adding to the fun? A special appearance by Lob-Shonda - our very own LaShonda suited up in full lobster flair - keeping spirits high and smiles wide from start to finish.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the evening raised $4,800 in support of the Galloway Ridge Residents Benevolent Care Fund, helping ensure neighbors facing unexpected financial hardship continue to feel secure and supported.

Good food. Great company. A meaningful cause. Just another example of what makes life at Galloway Ridge so special.

– American Red Cross Blood Drive ❤️

Galloway Ridge was proud to host an American Red Cross Blood Drive yesterday, welcoming donors from our campus and the surrounding community. Residents and staff, along with neighbors from Fearrington Village and the Duke Center for Living, participated in this shared effort.

Blood drives require coordination, commitment, and people willing to step forward, and we were glad to provide the space for this important work. The result was more than just a well-attended event. It was a direct contribution to an ongoing, critical need.

We appreciate everyone who rolled up their sleeves to support this vital cause.

- Color Field Pour 🎨

Cold weather has us indoors, and after last week’s wool felt canvas session, we decided to keep the creative streak going.

This week, we took inspiration from artist Helen Frankenthaler, who shook up the art world in 1952 by pouring thinned paint directly onto raw canvas to create Mountains and Sea. Her approach opened the door for a whole new way of making art, proving that you do not always need a paintbrush to make something powerful.

Naturally, we had to test the theory.

In this hands-on session, residents experimented with Frankenthaler’s soak-stain technique themselves, exploring movement, color, and a little unpredictability along the way. The results were bold, expressive, and completely one of a kind.

Winter might be keeping us indoors, but it has not slowed down our creative momentum.

- Drawing the Blur: Wool Felt as Canvas🎨

This past week, residents explored the work of artist Léa Belooussovitch, whose innovative technique of using colored pencils on wool felt creates beautifully blurred, expressive imagery. Her approach challenges traditional ideas about materials and invites a fresh way of seeing texture, memory, and perception.

After learning about her process, participants experimented with the medium themselves, engaging in conversation about artistic interpretation as they tried something completely new.

Experiences like this reflect the spirit of Galloway Ridge. Curiosity, creativity, and meaningful engagement in the arts are simply part of everyday life here.
