The mission of The Williams Group (TWG) is to develop just and equitable systems that foster the creation of adequate resources for the empowerment of our disenfranchised, underserved, criminally involved population. Our service philosophy is a cognitive behavioral therapy based framework that supports leadership through personal development, resulting in a shift from blind compliance to powerful
leadership for oneself. The Williams Group’s primary program components include intensive case management, violence prevention/intervention, street/community engagement, mentoring, leadership development, and conflict resolution training. In 2008, The Williams Group was awarded a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) contract for services with the Contra Costa Workforce Development Board in partnership with Contra Costa County’s District One Supervisor John Gioia, Contra Costa County’s Redevelopment Agency and Contra Costa County’s Housing Authority to provide intensive case management services to “Out of School” youth ages 14-25 of North Richmond – “The North Richmond Young Adult Empowerment Center”. These clients were provided mentoring, case management, job placement, internships, vocational training and academic placement services. Since 2010, The Williams Group has partnered with John Muir Community Health Alliance/John Muir Trauma Center Walnut Creek on a hospital based violence intervention initiative called Beyond Violence. The Williams Group’s service delivery is intensive case management to victims of violent assaults, of whom 63% are under probation supervision and/or formerly incarcerated. From 2008 to today, The Williams Group has provided intensive case management, mentoring and leadership development services to the formerly incarcerated, extremely difficult to serve “Returning Citizen” population in Contra Costa County, Alameda County, Santa Cruz County, Washington DC, and Belfast, N.
