This week, ESC8 was proud to host the Emergent Bilingual Conference: A Strengths-Based Approach to Teaching and Learning, uniting educators from across the region to explore innovative strategies that foster language development and academic success for all learners.

Participants gained valuable insights from keynote speaker Carlene Thomas and engaged in dynamic sessions focused on meeting students' affective needs while strengthening their linguistic and cognitive skills.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Harts Bluff Elementary dual language kindergarten class for their delightful folkloric performance and to the districts that showcased their students’ creativity in the conference Art Expo.

We also extend our appreciation to TIPS and Taste This Catering for providing a delicious lunch, and to everyone who contributed to making this day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration a tremendous success!

NTCA students on the move!

Students from the Northeast Texas Career Alliance (NTCA) recently toured Wood Air Conditioning & Plumbing and Cox Concrete Products in Mount Pleasant, Texas, gaining valuable, real-world insight into local career pathways and industry operations.

A huge thank-you to Kendall Edwards, Zac Crane, and Ryan Walters at Wood Air Conditioning, as well as Ryon Cox and Carrie McNeil at Cox Concrete Products along with their teams at both companies, for serving as our tour guides and sharing their expertise in the industrial maintenance and business and logistics career fields.

During the tours, students explored a wide range of industry processes from hands-on applications in manufacturing and shipping to the importance of teamwork, safety, and quality craftsmanship in every project. These experiences help students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities and future careers right here in Northeast Texas!

Many times, signs of deteriorating mental health are noticeable well before a mental health illness emerges. Early mental health prevention and intervention has been shown to support better outcomes for youth and their families. Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges among children and adolescents.
This course is evidence-based and satisfies HB 3 for mental health training for school staff. Youth Mental Health First Aid also satisfies the mental health training requirement of the District Vulnerability Assessment.

NOTE: This Blended Course includes 2 hours of self-paced, online pre-work that must be competed prior to attending the 5-hour in-person portion of the class held at Region 8 ESC.
