First of all let me say there should be no shame in starting any kind of medication.

I personally take medication every day. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Most drugs recommended by your provider will almost always have more benefits vs side effects.

All of that being said you should always check with your doctor before starting or stopping medications.

I know that many of the clients I work with want to avoid medications especially when they are first diagnosed with diabetes.

And I support them wholeheartedly in trying to make lifestyle changes!

So let’s talk about some of the strategies you can use to hopefully limit medication use.

Nutritionally we certainly know what doesn’t work: eliminating carbs, fad diets, skipping meals, eating sugar free everything.

Plus another big aspect of lifestylehealth we forget about is stress management! In addition to exercise and solid sleep of course.

Managing diabetes isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to mean pushing yourself to extremes that won’t work long term.

If you’re ready to try a different way of managing blood sugars that doesn’t involve dieting and cutting out your favorite foods then send me a DM and let’s chat.

No pressure, would just love to learn more about where you are right now and where you would like to see yourself in 3 months.

Snacks aren’t off limits if you have diabetes- there might just need to be some considerations like timing and composition.

For a diabetes-friendly snack, it’s all about balance!

Look for snacks that combine fiber, healthy fats, and protein to help maintain steady blood sugar levels.

These choices not only keep you full longer but also prevent spikes in blood sugar.

Be mindful of portion sizes and avoid snacks with added sugars or refined carbs.

Your goal is to fuel your body with nutrient-dense foods that support your health and satisfy your cravings!

If you’re looking for more ideas DM me snacks and I’ll send you a full list of healthy snack ideas perfect for diabetes.

A high blood sugar can be from many things.

A high test result does not mean there is a one quick fix.

For the short-term, I suggest that you do not consume any carbs, and instead eat small amounts of healthy fat/protein.

Exercise may raise blood sugar in the short run, but lower in the long run. In the short run, exercise is a stressor and will elevate levels.

In most folks, 30-60 minutes after exercise, levels will lower.

Blood sugar levels are generally higher in the morning anyway due to the rise of hormones - this is known as the Dawn Phenomena.

The dawn phenomenon is when a person’s blood sugar level rises in the early morning, usually between 2 AM and 8 AM, even though they haven’t eaten anything.

This happens because the body releases hormones to prepare for waking up, which can make it harder for insulin to keep blood sugar levels stable. It’s very common in people with diabetes.

More research needs to be done on supplements and insulin resistance but the results are promising! Deficiencies in micronutrients can have a strong influence on type 2 diabetes management and insulin resistance.

You shouldn’t need a supplement if you are eating a well-balanced diet but I know that’s not always the case…

So I’m diving into the research and sharing which supplements you should put on your radar as a type 2 diabetic… especially if you find your diet lacking these nutrients.

In my diabetes group this question came up: what do you do for a high blood sugar? Is there something you can eat (like how juice will increase blood sugar when you have a low)?

Drink water to improve hydration

Take a walk to use more energy

Eat protein to slow absorption

If numbers are dangerously high (over 400 is a rule of thumb) call provider or go to ER.

What does doing your best with diabetes look like?

⭐️“Your best” doesn’t mean pushing yourself to the breaking point.

⭐️”Your best” means doing the best you can while being the best you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Give yourself breaks, listen to your limits, treat yourself well.

⭐️”Your best” is better when you’re happy and healthy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Your best can simply be eating more fiber, getting enough sleep, moving your body, managing stress.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Your lifestyle is not the sum total of how many calories you consumed in a single day, how many minutes you exercised, or how many minutes of sleep you got.

⭐️⭐️⭐️It’s time to be a place in your life where you want to be happy and health, no matter what size.

What does your best self feel physically mentally and emotionally for you??
