“I decided to donate because sickle cell runs in my family. I have nieces and nephews that have to get transfusions, my grandmother died when she was 52 because of sickle cell. So I understand the importance of donating.”

Michelle Peay lives in Columbia. Michelle has been donating blood for about 4 years now. She encourages everyone to donate blood because you are making an impact on lives.

Changes to the blood supply can happen in an instant. The American Red Cross urges donors to help stay prepared by making an appointment to give blood or platelets in June.

Even when hospitals are fully stocked with blood products, unexpected events can cause a sudden drop in the availability of lifesaving transfusions.

We are hosting a community event in partnership with Amachi Pittsburgh. Our goal is to teach the knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to a life threatening emergency! This is a free event! You can register and or share with a group/person who may benefit from on this information.

Today is National Drug Take Back Day. This is an effort to clean out medicine cabinet of old, expired, outdated, unused medications. This helps prevent drug overdoses, misuses and addictions. This is especially important for our youth and aging populations!
