Moving in March!

Goodbye Garfield, Hello Squirrel Hill!!

Thanks for everything, Garfield!
I've enjoyed the time we've shared in the Garfield studio over the past two years. It's been so nice meeting new people in this area, and being a part of so many amazing businesses and artists, and sharing space with Tend & Nourish.

So why are we moving?
I'm always learning new techniques and modalities, and the more I expand on these I've realized I need more physical space to grow. I'm also very excited to be more a part of my own neighborhood and connect with the community in Squirrel Hill and Greenfield.

A little about the new space
The new location is at 2033 Murray Ave (Murray & Hobart), and we'll be all moved in at the beginning of March. Our space is located directly above Equity Realty on the second floor. To access the space, you'll take the stairs in the parking lot on Hobart and our door is at the top. The parking lot isn't for our use, so free parking is available on the side streets, and paid parking on Murray ave.

Accessibility is very important to me, and because the new space has stairs, I'll be offering mobile massage for folks that need it. There will be limited availability, so reach out to me directly to schedule a mobile massage if stairs are a barrier for you.

Thanks so much for continuing to grow with me over the years, and I'm looking forward to sharing the new space with you!

Hello beautiful community!

S**t is getting really scary out there, and I know a lot of folks are really worried about how they’ll afford a lot of things, including food. Some friends and I have made a commitment to stock our little local food pantries and libraries in the city. I just stocked the little lime pantry at Grace & Peace Presbyterian Church (located on the side of the church).

If you need food, please take it! If you have enough and want to help, please consider stocking this or other pantries in the city.

I love you so much, Pittsburgh! We’ve got you.

Did you know? I had a custom wedge made for my electric massage table that has a chest recess, so when you’re prone it relieves pressure to the chest and upper back area. When you’re supine, there’s a pillow for your head. The wedge also has an added benefit of aligning the pelvis, relieving pressure to the low back.

Your comfort is very important to me, and I’m always dreaming up new ways to make sure you’re taken care of.

This is a VERY delayed announcement, but better late than never!

Back in August I traveled to Austin to visit my very good friend and talented maker .shop, who very lovingly hosted me while I took one of the more challenging trainings of my life.

And yep, I’m now officially certified in manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) by the Academy of Lymphatic Studies!

My goal with this training is to focus on working with q***r & trans folks post top surgery, helping to ease discomfort, decrease recovery time, and be a gender affirming support person. I’d also love to work with folks that are living with cancer, chronic pain, and other conditions where traditional massage might not be accessible.

I’ll also be taking an advanced training next month to dive even deeper into post-surgical procedures that focus on the chest area.

Our New Studio in Garfield

We've been in our new space for a month, and we're loving it! It feels so nice to be on this side of town, have more room to stretch out, and are so excited to start hosting events soon! Keep your eyes out for more updates coming soon.

Some new things we're offering

We've upgraded your session experience!
Instead of using a traditional table warmer, we've upgraded to a Richway Biomat! It is a combination of far infrared rays, negative ions and the conductive properties of amethyst crystals, helping to relieve muscle pain, reduce stress and many other benefits all while keeping you warm and cozy. We've also added on hot towels to your feet for a relaxing close to the end of your session.

Add-ons
Add extended fascial cupping to your session which involves sliding the cups along a group of muscles to help release tension, in addition to leaving them stationary to allow more blood flow and movement to a specific area.

Add on 15 minutes of extra relaxation time either before or after your session to fully soak in the benefits of the biomat and even take a little nap.

60 minute focused massage
We're now offering a 60 minute session that's a great option for folks on a budget, someone looking for relaxation that doesn't experience much chronic pain, or folks who only want very detailed work like focusing on shoulders, neck and jaw.

Rate increase

Due to rising costs, we'll be raising our rates. Please let us know if this will be a barrier to you receiving treatment. We're always willing to work with you to make sure you get the care you need.

There are moments as a practitioner where I doubt my skill and value. Sometimes I worry I didn’t do enough, or I said the wrong thing, or I didn’t hold space in exactly the right way.

And then there are these moments where I connect on a deeper level with the person who walks through my door that I am reminded of why I do what I do.

I am so grateful and honored to support you on your journey, whether it’s once or many times. I absolutely view the work I do as collaborative, because it takes the both of us showing up for healing to occur.

Hi friends! Allyson of .skintherapy and I are so excited about the new space we secured. If you’re familiar with the Garfield neighborhood, it’s the building with the bride mural on it. There’s so much about this space that we love, and it also needs a little TLC to make it perfect for both of our practices and you!

We’re asking for your help to make this space a reality. Not just for us, but for all of the folks in our community who haven’t felt welcome in other spaces. For the folks who’ve been shamed for how their body or skin looks, who they are, or how they perceive the world, we want to create a space that’s welcoming and nourishing.

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve been back full time in the studio, and I have to tell you how grateful I am to spend time with you again. It’s been so lovely to get back to connecting and supporting you on your healing journey.

Thank you so much for your support and patience throughout my recovery. I’m now working on strengthening, and balance. It feels really good to get to this point, learning to trust my knees again as I begin to maneuver everyday things in a new and cautious way.

I’ve gotten into a rhythm and flow when at the studio, and the only thing that’s really different in how I practice is the height of the table when I work (sometimes comically high) and icing my knee in between sessions.

I’m looking forward to working with you again soon, and so excited for the new adventure that awaits Embodied Spirit this spring!
