I’m so excited to be training with Birthing Advocacy Doula Training. BADT is a black-owned and queer-led organization, filling a desperate need for inclusive and justice-minded spaces in the birth work world. Even though I am trained and certified as a postpartum doula through DONA, I want to enhance my practice to be more inclusive, culturally appropriate, and trauma informed. I can’t wait to learn and grow with this community!

Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico on Sunday, causing an island wide power outage, massive flooding, and landslides.

My friend and I make beaded earrings and this week we are raising funds for Taller Salud, a grassroots feminist organization in Puerto Rico that is providing immediate aid to people affected by the Hurricane in Loiza. They have community kitchens and are collecting and distributing food and essentials. Check out their instagram page to to learn more and donate to them directly.

I love this approach to parenting and life from my brilliant friend Beth.

I immediately think of all the energy I spent worrying that the way we put our child to sleep would cause us to face some huge sleep disaster later in life. Or the way we decided to introduce foods would mean our child wouldn’t be as healthy as she possibly could be. Or toilet training. Or behavior consequences. Or toy selection. Or what preschool to go to...

I hope that you find what works best for the most people in your family. I hope that you can let yourself off the hook from worry that your current parenting decisions will lead to problems down the line. If what you are doing right now is ok, then maybe don’t worry about making changes until it’s a problem.
