I understand how you feel as a new Director of Nursing.

Walking into the building, already overwhelmed…
Trying to hold everything together…
Feeling like you’re one step behind all day.

In my 19 years as a Director of Nursing, I’ve been there too.

And what I’ve learned is this:

It’s not that you’re not capable.
It’s that you’re trying to lead in a role that requires structure, support, and strategy without being given any of it.

That is what makes it feel so heavy.

But here’s what also changed everything for me:

When I stopped trying to carry everything alone, things started to shift.

Clarity came.
Confidence grew.
Leadership became more sustainable.

Because the truth is, you were never meant to do this on your own.

If nothing changes, the next quarter will feel exactly like the last one.

But it doesn’t have to.

With the right support and mentorship, your leadership can look completely different.

I’m Michelle Carter Bey, founder of the DON Success Network, and I’d love to support you.

This is exactly why mentorship matters. ❤️

Hailey stepped into our call wanting support as she prepared for her next chapter as a new DON, and she left feeling encouraged, focused, and more confident in what God has been preparing her for.

In my 19 years as a Director of Nursing, I have learned that new DONs do not just need information. They need guidance, clarity, faith, support, and someone who can help them see the bigger picture while also helping them see themselves in it.

Thank you, Hailey, for trusting me with this part of your journey.

If you are stepping into a new DON role, you do not have to do it alone.

From rookie to confident leader.

Stepping into your role as a Director of Nursing should not feel like starting over every single day.

In my 19 years as a DON, I’ve learned that the difference between struggling and succeeding is not talent.

Its development, coaching, structure, and support.
You were chosen for the role.
Now it’s time to grow into it.

Friday Poll 💜

As a Director of Nursing, the hardest part of the week is not always what people see. Sometimes it is filling staffing gaps, training leaders, protecting your boundaries, or keeping your team engaged.

What was your biggest challenge this week?
• Staffing
• Leadership Training
• Personal Boundaries
• Team Engagement

Drop your answer in the comments. Honest conversations create stronger leaders, and your response may help another DON realize they are not alone.

From rookie to confident leader.

Imagine stepping into your role as a Director of Nursing and not feeling like a rookie every single day.

Instead, you feel prepared.

You feel confident.

You feel in control of your decisions.

In my 19 years as a Director of Nursing, I’ve seen this truth over and over again:
The difference between struggling and succeeding in your first year is not talent.
It is development.

Just like in the NFL, growth happens with coaching, structure, and support.
That is how players become champions.

And that is how Directors of Nursing become strong, confident leaders.
You were already chosen for the role.
Now it is time to grow into it.

With the right mentorship and community, your next season of leadership can look completely different.

Anything is possible with support.

Even first-round draft picks have coaches.

When a player gets drafted, they don’t step onto the field alone.
They have mentors, coaches, and an entire system designed to help them grow.

So why are so many new Directors of Nursing expected to lead alone?

I understand how you feel, because I’ve been there.

In my 19 years as a Director of Nursing, I’ve learned this:

The strongest leaders are not the ones who know everything.
They are the ones who are supported while they grow and know when to ask for help.

I’ve made mistakes.
I’ve felt the pressure.
And I’ve also experienced growth and victories because I did not stop learning.

That is what mentorship does.

It accelerates your growth and gives you the guidance you need to lead with more confidence and clarity.

You were never meant to develop your leadership alone.

That is why spaces like the DON Success Network and one-on-one mentorship exist, to help you grow faster and stronger in your role.

Anything is possible with the right support.

You got drafted, but no one gave you the playbook.

The NFL Draft brings excitement, celebration, and a new level of opportunity. A player hears their name called, and everything changes overnight.

In many ways, becoming a Director of Nursing feels the same.
You earned the role.
You stepped into the position.
And then reality hits.

Now you are expected to lead, make critical decisions, and perform at a high level immediately.

But here is the truth:
Getting drafted does not mean you are fully developed.
And becoming a Director of Nursing does not mean you are fully prepared for everything the role demands.

Even top draft picks have coaches, systems, and development plans.
Yet so many new DONs are expected to perform without support, mentorship, or a real leadership roadmap.

You were never meant to lead without a playbook.
That is why the DON Success Network exists.

Join us and get the guidance, support, and leadership tools you need to become a more confident and successful Director of Nursing.

So many women step into leadership roles carrying heavy responsibility and are expected to simply figure it out on their own.

That is where doubt starts to creep in.

This is exactly why creating spaces of support, clarity, and mentorship matters so much.

I am grateful for words like these because they remind me that the work we are doing is meaningful and needed.

No leader should have to carry the weight of leadership alone.

Thank you, Malica Ahmad, for this powerful reminder and for seeing the heart behind this work. ❤️
