Korion Health at the 2026 UPMC Digital Health Summit

Anna Li and Sejal Molakaseema attended the 2026 UPMC Digital Health Summit this week!

The summit brought together leading voices in digital medicine, uniting clinicians, educators, and health tech innovators across Pitt Health Sciences, UPMC, and CMU, and we were honored to be part of this dynamic community.💡🤝

Amid poster presentations showcasing cross-disciplinary collaboration, patient-centered outcomes research, and AI-driven innovation, Sejal and Anna presented their poster titled “From Pitt Students to Patients: The SoundHeart, an Affordable Digital Stethoscope to Expand Access to Home Cardiopulmonary Screening.” A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our poster, sparked engaging conversations, and shared our excitement about using digital health to improve accessibility and quality of health care.🩺❤️

We are so excited for what’s ahead as we continue building alongside community partners at the intersection of technology, medicine, and accessibility.

We recently conducted user testing for our electronic stethoscope at the University of Pittsburgh Big Idea Center!💡

It is always fun to watch real users interact with the device and see our vision come to life. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Participants highlighted usability, compact and aesthetic design, and seamless connection to their mobile devices 🩺📲. This was our first time asking beta testers to download our app. The graphics in the app were easy to follow, and users said they could envision how this technology will bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility. A highlight for several participants was being able to hear their own heart sounds for the first time🫀💓, which generated a lot of excitement and curiosity. Interest exceeded the number of devices available, and we were able to troubleshoot and resolve minor compatibility issues with Android devices on the spot.

This hands-on feedback will help us further refine our product and design patient-centered technology with accessibility and usability at its core. Thank you to the University of Pittsburgh students who participated (in part bribed by cookies🍪) and to our intern Sejal Molakaseema for helping to lead the effort. We are excited to keep building and evolving. Stay tuned! 🌟

"I would almost never recommend cutting loose a safety net to pursue a startup, unless you absolutely cannot live with yourself until you pursue your startup – as was the case for me when I was watching my patients die of preventable conditions. In the real world, you need to eat and pay for other costs of living. So just be careful about how much you let adrenaline rule your life."

Want to learn about the above and other principles to consider when founding a company - from the one and only Anna Li, winner of the $1M Hult Prize? Then look no further than the latest Korion Health blog post!!! We hope you can derive some utility in your student venture from her words of wisdom. ✨

We recently collaborated in a way we never have before❕ The international nonprofit Youth Venture asked Korion to support a workshop for their high school students on giving a "persuasive, professional, and memorable" business pitch. We proposed that Youth Venture's students conduct a critical analysis of our $1M Hult Prize-winning pitch ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORa3tayN6WQ ), including what storytelling elements made it stand out for the judges. Goodness knows Anna and Akshaya worked nonstop for six weeks to make every second of speech count. 🗣️

So, shoutout to Maxine L., Tajbir R., Steph C., Hannah L., and Lilly O. – thank you for taking the time to share your critiques with us! Here were some of the students' responses:
📌 What went well in Anna and Akshaya’s pitch? "I really enjoyed the way that Anna ended the pitch using a cliffhanger-like conclusion. Ending a presentation with true impact statistics is really powerful and compelling because it shows viewers and judges how change can be made right here, right now if they were to invest in Korion Health."
📈 Why do you think Korion Health won this pitch competition amongst over 9,000 competitors? "They won because their arguments were backed with clear evidence and delivered in a confident tone that kept the audience engaged. Their idea was also unique and seemed like it could generate a lot of revenue."
📌 Is there anything you would do differently if given the chance to present Anna and Akshaya’s pitch? "I would add more data and real world evidence to reinforce the narrative and strengthen credibility."
📈 How will you incorporate what you learned into your potential pitch for Youth Venture? "I will use more storytelling, just like Korion Health did, to clearly show the problem’s emotional, real world impact, and evoke ethos."
📌 What company do you wish to potentially create or be a part of in the future? "I'd like to be part of a company that provides children and families with quality learning resources in literature, the arts, and science."

Anna prepared this video to encourage the members of Youth Venture and all the other student entrepreneurs out there to pursue their business dreams. You can learn more about Youth Venture at https://youthventures.vercel.app

Lastly, thanks to their co-founder Chantal for reaching out and brainstorming ideas with us. Cheers! 💫

Quote: "While the social-media app is merely entertainment, Li wondered if Snapchat's filter tech could be repurposed. 'They use augmented reality to locate your body,' Li realized. 'We can also use augmented reality to look at your body and find the heart valve positions.'"

We are delighted to finally announce that Brian Beyer, the fearless leader of Hellbender Inc., joined the Korion Board of Directors earlier this year! Korion collaborated with Hellbender from the start, as Anna was attempting to perform audio engineering herself in the University of Pittsburgh Makerspace. The Hb team provided critical support to bring Anna's product vision to life, not only contributing the engineering tools and knowhow, but also helping to strategize and building low-fidelity prototypes to get into the hands of early investors before developing fully functional electronic stethoscopes. All of this support Hb provided when their company was also just getting started, knowing that Korion had raised less than $5k and might not be able to pay them back for their contributions. We are forever grateful that Hellbender took a chance on us and has been the backbone of our engineering wing, providing both expertise, ingenuity, kindness, and laughs right when they are needed most. Today, Hellbender is an equity-holding member on our capitalization table and is considered a co-founder of Korion.

Anna, Akshaya, and other Korion team members are deeply appreciative of Brian Beyer's guidance and steady support throughout our journey, noting that he is an active ally to minoritized populations and he approaches problems with brilliance, creativity, humanity, humility, open-mindedness, and good-natured humor. Brian has resolved many stressful situations and explained engineering and business concepts patiently and without prejudice. Over the years, we have come to rely on his presence and steady hand. Also, Anna loves his dog Lyle. Here's a bit more about Brian:

---
Brian Beyer is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Hellbender Inc, a Pittsburgh-based computer vision and Internet of Things (IoT) original design manufacturer, working closely with Korion on hardware development and engineering. Hellbender was founded to support IoT and computer vision startup companies by engineering and manufacturing products in the United States. Previous to founding Hellbender, Mr. Beyer served as the Chief Product Officer for Carnegie Robotics, specializing in the development of commercial products focused on rugged sensor payloads, inertial navigation systems, and autonomous robotics applications. Mr. Beyer is a former USMC active-duty NCO and ARNG infantryman with over 12 years of service. During Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, he served as an Assault Section Leader for Bravo Company 1st Battalion 2nd Marines in Task Force Tarawa.
