Did you know that illness and stress can impact your hormones—and your cycle? As we enter cold and flu season, it’s important to learn how sickness can affect our cycles! 🤒

When we’re sick or stressed, our bodies prioritize survival, which can affect the balance of hormones that regulate our menstrual cycles.

First, the body can delay ovulation by signaling that now isn’t the best time for pregnancy. If the stress hits post-ovulation, it can shorten the luteal phase, leading to an early period.

The immune and reproductive systems are closely linked. When the body faces a health challenge, it can temporarily shift energy from reproductive functions to immune support instead.

Charting your cycle can reveal how illness or stress affects you. For example, you might notice a later ovulation or unusual temperature patterns due to being sick.

By tracking our cycles and listening to these signals, we gain insight into our health and can make more informed decisions! To learn more about charting your cycle, give us a follow and check out our plethora of resources at the link in our bio. Stay healthy! 💕

Do you experience breast soreness before your period? You are not alone! Let’s break down why breast soreness can occur and a few things that can help!

In the second half of your cycle, both estrogen and progesterone levels rise as your body prepares for a potential pregnancy. Estrogen stimulates the milk ducts, while progesterone causes the milk glands to swell. This can leave your breasts feeling tender, swollen, or heavy.

While sore breasts can be frustrating, there are a few things that might help!

👉 Warm or cold compresses
👉 Caffeine reduction
👉 Comfortable bras
👉 Diet adjustments

Your body’s natural rhythms might sometimes cause discomfort, but understanding what’s behind these changes can empower you to find relief.

Did you know that periods play a crucial role in your overall health, even beyond fertility? Here are 5 reasons why women need periods:

💕 Brain Health: Estrogen protects against certain neurological issues. It’s especially important during the teen years when brains are still developing.

💕 Bone Health: Estrogen is essential for maintaining strong bones, helping to prevent bone density loss as we age. Ovulation ensures you have enough estrogen to keep your bones healthy.

💕 Immune Support: Hormonal shifts throughout the menstrual cycle can boost your immune system. Ovulation helps balance immune responses, making your body more resilient.

💕 Heart Health: Estrogen helps regulate cholesterol levels and maintain healthy blood vessels. Regular cycles mean your body is getting the hormones needed to keep your heart strong!

💕 Preparing for Pregnancy: Even if you’re not planning to conceive right now, your period is a sign that your body is in sync and ready for a healthy pregnancy when the time comes.

Every period is a sign that your body is working as it should, supporting your health in so many ways. To learn more about your cycle, visit the link in our bio!

Let’s talk about 5 lesser-known symptoms of endometriosis!

Endometriosis affects about 10% of women and girls, but it’s often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. While many people know it can cause painful periods, there’s much more to the story.

Here are a few lesser-known symptoms:

1️⃣ Gastrointestinal Problems: Endometriosis can impact your digestive system too. Bloating, gas, cramps, and even painful bowel movements are common, especially around your period.

2️⃣ Nerve Pain: Endometriosis lesions can pull on or even attack nerves, causing sharp, shooting pains, especially during physical activity.

3️⃣ Fatigue: Studies suggest that inflammation from endometrial lesions can lead to chronic fatigue, with up to 50% of women with endo experiencing this symptom.

4️⃣ Painful S*x or Ovulation: Many women with endo experience discomfort during or after s*x, as well as during ovulation. Pain can show up as cramping, hip pain, or even back pain.

5️⃣ Premenstrual Spotting: Light spotting that starts a few days before your period can be another sign of endometriosis. Charting your cycle can help you identify this pattern.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you’re not alone—and there are options for managing endometriosis. Want to learn more about how charting your cycle can help you understand and manage endometriosis symptoms? Check out the link in our bio for resources and support!

October is , a reminder to raise awareness and spread the word about prevention. 💖

Breast cancer impacts 1 in 8 women in the U.S., but there are steps we can take to reduce the risk and support each other in making informed choices.

Here are a few proactive ways to lower your risk, According to the American Cancer Society, you can lower your risk for breast cancer by…

💕 Eating a balanced diet and stay active
💕 Maintaining a healthy weight
💕 Limiting, or avoiding, alcohol
💕 Learning and practicing fertility awareness methods to avoid pregnancy vs. using chemical-hormonal birth control. Taking chemical hormones for consecutive years prior to first pregnancy increases the risks of breast cancer.
💕 Breastfeeding for at least several months, if possible, as each year of breastfeeding is associated with a 4.3% decrease in breast cancer risk.

This month, let’s encourage one another to take a closer look at our health habits and make small adjustments that can have a big impact. Whether it's scheduling a screening, getting active, or exploring non-hormonal fertility options, let’s support one another!

As always, we are here to help in any way we can! Let’s make this October a time for real change, awareness, and support. 💗

Last week, we covered the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, so now, let’s learn about the luteal phase!

The luteal phase begins after ovulation when the empty follicle transforms into the corpus luteum, a gland that produces progesterone. This hormone plays a key role in preparing your body for a possible pregnancy!

During the luteal phase…

👉 Progesterone causes the cervix to stop secreting fertile mucus, replacing it with a thick, sticky mucus that protects your body from s***m and microorganisms.

👉 The lining of the uterus, or endometrium, thickens to support implantation if pregnancy occurs.

👉 If no fertilization happens, the progesterone level drops, and the lining is shed during menstruation.

A healthy luteal phase typically lasts between 9 to 18 days, with an average of 12 days. It’s a great indicator that ovulation has occurred and that your hormones are in balance!

Curious about your luteal phase and what it means for your fertility? Charting your cycle through fertility awareness-based methods (FABMs) can give you deeper insights into your body’s natural rhythms. Learn more through the link in our bio!

Did you know that teaching teens about fertility awareness can give them the knowledge and confidence to take control of their health from a young age? That’s right!

Here’s why fertility awareness matters for teens:

✨ Charting cycles helps teens recognize the natural patterns of their bodies, giving them confidence and respect for their health.

✨ It can show how factors like sleep, diet, stress, and exercise impact their cycles.

✨ It helps them detect when something is off, allowing them to seek help for things like irregular periods, hormonal imbalances, or other health concerns.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that teens start tracking their cycles as and important part of managing their overall health!

Ready to help your teen (or yourself!) get started on this journey? FEMM offers an amazing teen program that teaches girls how to chart their cycles and develop lifelong habits of self-care and confidence. Check out our bio to learn more and sign up! 💖
