The grass we grow now is not native to our area. It has very shallow roots which require a lot of water to stay green. If we planted more native grasses with a deeper roots or let our lawns go to wildflower or plant with clover we would have the same aesthetic affect without all the maintenance and use of resources. Or forgo lawns altogether and just grow food 😀

Editing to add: Some pretty intense responses on this thread. To those who are up in arms about this post:

I didn’t write the original meme but just to be clear the original author is not against lawns. Lawns are great! He was against the perfectly manicured, pesticide-laden non-native grass lawns. He is against herbicides and chemical fertilizers. And that’s his opinion. You are under no obligation to agree. No one is attacking your right to have a lawn. Breathe.

Sometimes people, myself included, share memes they come across without thinking it all the way through. I didn’t write the meme but I did share it so yes, I can take responsibility for choosing a more aggressively worded meme. The message (of avoiding pesticides and herbicides on grass) is one I agree with but next time I will choose one that is worded in a different way.

I just added to his original message by offering ideas for alternatives to the traditional perfectly manicured grass lawn for those who would like them. If you would not like to look for alternatives, that’s ok too 😊

I get that people are tense and sorry if it upset you but this page is not a place to release your negative energy. If you would like to stay with us, I would recommend you take a deep breathe (preferably into a flower), communicate with kindness and have a wonderful day. Or not. You do you. Just not here✌️
