When winter weather makes things complicated, our crew makes things possible. ❄️💚

Thank you to every team member and contractor who spent the past few days rescheduling appointments, transitioning families to virtual therapy, and clearing snow from sidewalks and parking areas all so our kids and families could continue receiving care.

Your dedication ensures that even when mother nature throws curveballs, our mission doesn’t skip a beat.

And while The Day School has been closed due to the extreme cold, we can’t wait to welcome our students back as soon as it’s safe to do so!

You might see a child at a restaurant yelling, melting down, or refusing to sit still.
You might notice a teenager wearing headphones everywhere, avoiding eye contact, or seeming “checked out.”

What we see at The Children’s Institute is a child trying to navigate an overwhelming, loud world that wasn't built for them.

Behavior is communication. Sometimes it’s a child telling us they’re overstimulated, anxious, or trying their very best to cope.

With understanding, patience, and the right support, kids with autism and neurodivergence can thrive. 💚

Could your child benefit from talking to a professional? We offer compassionate Behavioral Health Services, including therapy and medication management when appropriate.

Sometimes kids just need a little extra support from a trusted adult who isn't a parent or a friend. We're here to help.

Introducing the newly refurbished Pirates Charities Gym! ✨👀 This space supports nearly 500 children each year as they build strength, balance, and confidence through physical and occupational therapy.

Thanks to a generous $50,000 gift from Pirates Charities, the upgraded gym features adaptive equipment, sensory-friendly lighting, and tools designed to help children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and other developmental disabilities thrive.

A playful new mural by Pittsburgh artist Phil Seth featuring the Pirate Parrot and Wilson the Dinosaur adds joy, hope, and a special backdrop for capturing milestone moments.

This longstanding partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates has already touched thousands of lives over the years, and we’re incredibly grateful for this latest investment in the children and families we serve. Every detail of this space was designed to inspire progress, imagination, and possibility.
