🧡 Season of Gratitude: throughout the month of November, we are highlighting our gratitude for some of the folks in our lives at St. Margaret Foundation.

Today we are grateful for Judy Granato, Jaqi Conomikes, and their team of volunteers. Judy is a member of the Board of Directors of St. Margaret Foundation who has taken on the task of maintaining the many gardens that receive grants from St. Margaret Foundation, along with Jaqi and other volunteers. It takes year-round expertise to ensure our gardens look beautiful and welcoming for our patients who need a place to find peace during stressful situations. This team looks after the Garden of Hope in the Van Horn Pavilion, the Butterfly Garden in the courtyard, the garden on the rehab floor, and the garden at the New Kensington Family Health Center. Thank you, Judy, Jaqi, and more!

Today we are grateful for JD Lane. JD is St. Margaret Hospital's Mail Clerk. He is absolutely essential to the daily operations of St. Margaret Foundation and so many others. He does more than deliver our mail to and from the office - JD goes above and beyond to help us improve our processes and be more efficient. He brings us extra supplies when we need it, he helps us navigate the hospital by sharing his expertise, and he offers us a smiling face when we need it. Thank you, JD, for all you do!

Remembering our dear Rod Rutkowski who when Santa couldn’t show up at the hospital for the children carolers one year, put on the suit and assumed the role, talking with each child one at a time. Rod was the director of Care Management and was as highly revered of a leader as anyone ever could be. Rod is pictured here 10 years ago today with Foundation President Mary Lee Gannon in front of the tree where the children hung their handmade ornaments. Thinking of you today, Rod.

💌 Save the Date! Giving Tuesday is December 2, 2025. Giving Tuesday is a global movement where people come together with generosity to strengthen communities and change the world.

An anonymous donor is offering to match donations on Giving Tuesday up to $50,000. When you give this year, your gift will be doubled for patients facing unprecedented hardship. St. Margaret Foundation is a public charity, independent of UPMC. We don't pay hospital bills - every dollar supports hope, healing, and independence for individuals in need. 🧡 Season of Gratitude: throughout the month of November, we are highlighting our gratitude for some of the folks in our lives at St. Margaret Foundation who make our days brighter and make what we do possible.

Today we are grateful for three of our long-time volunteers, Jean McDonough, Pat Severance, and Emilie Freese. These three are like family to us at the Foundation and it wouldn't be the same without them. They write notes, make calls, help us stay organized, and so much more. Our work would simply not be possible without their dedication. Thank you Jean, Pat, and Emilie!

Today, we are grateful for Terri Pellegrino and Bethany Rose from the Clinical Care Coordination & Discharge Planning Department at UPMC St. Margaret. Many of our largest grants are managed by this department: support for patients through the Patient Crisis Care Endowment, the employee food pantry, free health clinics, food bags for patients, discharge transportation, and more. Terri writes each grant application and report, purchases many of the items which are given to patients in crisis, and so much more. None of this would be possible without the leadership from Bethany Rose, Director of this department. Thank you to Bethany and Terri for working so hard to fill in the gaps with hope for our patients in crisis. Our work would not be possible without your support.

On this Veterans Day we honor all who have served our country in the armed forces. The American flag on our St. Margaret campus reminds us all to think of those in our lives who have served, including our donors, co-workers, friends, and family. We are grateful for you.

🦃 This Thanksgiving, while many of us will be surrounded by loved ones, enjoying home-cooked meals and sharing what we're grateful for, hundreds of patients at St. Margaret Hospital will be spending the day here, far from the warmth and comfort that Thanksgiving brings.

That's why this year, with your help, we will be providing each patient with a cute turkey candle holder, complete with a flickering LED light, an organza bag, and a message that reminds our patients that they are not alone. We want each patient to know that there are people who see them and care about them.

🧡 Show a patient that they are not alone this Thanksgiving by donating here: https://www.stmargaretfoundation.org/holidaygiftsforpatients
