Our Vision
To live in a world where no woman dies of cervical cancer, a completely preventable disease. Our Mission

To bring accurate and affordable cervical cancer prevention, screening, and treatment technologies to the world's most vulnerable women. Along with partners and stakeholders, we perform medical research and fieldwork in Latin American, Asia, and the Caribbean. Through this evidence-based approach, scalable blueprints of sustainable strategies can be applied in communities throughout the world to prevent, identify, and treat cervical cancer. More research and implementation work is needed to transcend the borders of health inequity. BHI, our partners, and the communities we serve are compelled to find solutions to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. By building the laboratory infrastructure for COVID-19 testing, we are also expanding HPV testing.

Our President and Founder, Dr. Miriam Cremer, spoke with WTAE-TV Pittsburgh yesterday about the significant impact the proposed NIH budget cuts by the Trump Administration could have on non-profits like Basic Health International (BHI) and research universities across the country.

Watch the interview here:

The statement said CMU is represented as an AAU member and that the university also joined as an individual party plaintiff.

As the year comes to a close, we at Basic Health International want to take a moment to reflect on the progress made in the fight against cervical cancer and the challenges that remain.

The World Health Organization’s call to action has inspired countries worldwide to prioritize cervical cancer prevention through vaccination, screening, and treatment. However, a critical obstacle persists: the shortage of skilled healthcare providers in underserved regions of low- and middle-income countries.

At BHI, we are committed to addressing this gap through our training programs for health promoters, nurses, and physicians. These efforts are saving lives and empowering communities by providing women with access to vital cervical cancer prevention services. Despite the limited funding for these programs, the impact has been profound.

As we prepare for the year ahead, your support is more important than ever. If you haven’t had the chance to contribute yet, we invite you to consider making a last-minute donation to help us continue this lifesaving work. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly supports the training and resources needed to expand access to care for women in need.

Together, we can close the gap in skilled healthcare providers and move closer to a world free from cervical cancer. Thank you for being part of this mission and for your continued generosity.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year.

As we celebrate this season of giving, we are reminded of the countless women around the world who continue to face preventable challenges in accessing essential healthcare. Cervical cancer, a disease that claims one life every two minutes, can be eliminated through timely vaccination, screening, and treatment.

Thanks to the World Health Organization’s global call to action, progress has been made—but a critical challenge persists: the shortage of skilled healthcare providers, particularly in underserved low- and middle-income communities.

At BHI, we are committed to changing this. Through our largely unfunded training programs, we equip health promoters, nurses, and physicians with the skills they need to save lives and prevent cervical cancer in the world’s most vulnerable populations.

This holiday season, your generosity can make a profound difference. Here’s how your support helps:

• Train healthcare providers to deliver life-saving cervical cancer prevention and treatment.
• Expand access to underserved women who need care the most.
• Support global efforts to eliminate cervical cancer once and for all.

Your contribution can bring health, hope, and happiness to women and families who need it most this holiday season. Together, we can make cervical cancer a thing of the past.

We wish you Happy Holidays and a bright 2025! Your BHI Team
