Mt. Assisi Place

Mt. Assisi Place At Mt. Assisi Place, residents find a personal care community that provides them with the quality care they need to remain as independent as possible. Francis.

Marian Hall Home is an assisted-living facility situated on an 11-acre campus, high atop a hillside overlooking beautiful vistas in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. It is state-licensed, and has been dedicated to professional, respectful care for the elderly since 1970. Marian Hall is located at Mount Assisi Convent, the home of the School Sisters of St. We provide 60 private, furnished rooms in two buildings that include modern security systems. Each room includes a private bath, individual temperature control, and an emergency call system. Laundry, linen, and housekeeping services are also part of our daily care. Telephones and cable television are available at affordable fees. Residents can provide their own personal furniture, if they desire. Our cafeteria is open for three meals and two snacks each day. Food is also stocked in resident lounges on each floor. Residents find Marian Hall has a family atmosphere, where they can be as independent as possible. They enjoy unlimited visitation privileges, both on and off the Mount Assisi campus. All in all, Marian Hall is a great place to live! Individuals in need of personal care for certain activities of daily living require an atmosphere of support, but one that fosters independence as well. Staff personnel at Marian Hall are dedicated to achieving such balance, for the welfare of residents, their family members, and other caregivers. Residents can receive round-the-clock care under the supervision of our nursing staff. They also enjoy unlimited visitation privileges, both on- and off-campus, which contributes greatly to the family atmosphere of Marian Hall. And our beautiful chapel helps all the people of Marian Hall enjoy a full spiritual life, following in the path of the mission and values of the School Sisters of Saint Francis. Residents at Marian Hall Home typically range in age from their mid-70s to their upper-90s, both female and male. Many are Catholic, and most — but not all — come from the Pittsburgh area. In cases where assisted-living arrangements are appropriate for them, married couples share a room. Marian Hall Home residents enjoy an excellent quality-of-life experience. Achieving physical, spiritual and emotional balance for residents is one of the objectives of Marian Hall's staff. Feedback from residents indicates that we are meeting these objectives.

It's Steelers Spirit Weekend here at Mt. Assisi Place! We kicked off the celebration today with a lunchtime pep rally full of tunes and treats. Residents took a trip down memory lane to sing the Steelers Polka from 1978, and showed off their Steelers savvy by scoring big at touchdown trivia. We are ever-so-grateful to the Pittsburgh Steelers for sending Steely McBeam to join in the fun, and to our food service team for the black-and-gold cupcakes. Residents, employees and visitors -- remember to show your spirit by wearing your black-and-gold gear all weekend long!

We were delighted to have clergy and parishioners from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish come to our grounds last week for an outdoor Mass and meal with our Residents. The visit was part of the parish's Pray & Picnic in the Park summer worship series. Many people have angel statues in their gardens, but we have our very own real-life gardening angel here at Mt. Assisi Place. In addition to her usual duties in our business office, Joanne Osborn has spent countless volunteer hours this spring and summer beautifying our grounds. Whether weeding or watering after work or planting and mulching on weekends, Joanne’s efforts are plain to see for visitors and Residents alike. Thanks also are in order for Jeff Funk, brother of Resident Dana Funk, who appreciative eyes caught doing some spring cleanup out front and sweeping the outdoor carpet at our main entrance during Holy Week. As Sister Barbara Ann Lengvarsky recently said of all the hard work, “Thank you for making our home so beautiful!”

As they do each year at this time, our friends at Amazing Scholar Academy Preschool dropped by recently to deliver special spring gift bags to our Residents. Each preschooler and their family “adopted” one of our Residents, selecting special items to bring them a dash of spring joy. The bags were filled with everything from throw blankets and snacks to puzzle books and hand lotion. The “Bubby Bags” spring service project is done in memory of Ross resident Cheryl Buchlmayer, whose grandchildren attended the preschool and to whom our hilltop was beloved. Formerly known as Mount Assisi Academy Preschool, the program was located here from 1980 to 2018, before moving to McKnight United Methodist Church in Ross. The grandchildren of some of our current Residents also attended the preschool.

Our ever-creative Activities Team coordinated several special activities intended to bring joy and excitement to our Residents leading up to Easter.

Nostalgic photos, music and trivia questions elicited fond memories during an Easter-themed session of Memory Lane on April 8. Participants reminisced about their family Easter traditions and eagerly offered answers to trivia questions about everything from the Easter story to famous bunnies.

Then on April 15, we literally rolled the dice in our fun-filled Bunny Races. Residents tossed large, soft dice to advance their bunnies along the “bunny trail.” Betty Oberst and Dennis Jones proved to be the best at the “bunny hop.”

Later in the week, we colored Easter eggs, and those who wished to could attend a full schedule of spiritual gatherings in our main chapel. We rounded out the fun on Easter Monday with a celebration that included a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Several students from The Saint Constantine School joined our Residents for Ash Wednesday Mass this morning to receive ashes in the Catholic tradition. Father Richard Zelik delivered a homily with a Lenten message geared toward all ages. Here, Sister Jeanne Marie Ulica offers ashes to (at left) Saint Constantine students, as well as (at right) employees Iris Sliwinski and Mary Kastory. Following Mass, Sister also visited the Resident halls to offer ashes to Residents and employees who could not attend Mass. Special meatless menu options also are available in the dining room today.

Our Story

Mt. Assisi Place is an 81-bed personal care facility situated on an 11-acre campus, high atop a hillside overlooking beautiful vistas in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. It is state-licensed, and has been dedicated to professional, respectful care for the elderly since 1970, when it opened as Marian Hall Home as a ministry of the School Sisters of St. Francis. We provide private, furnished rooms in two buildings that include modern security systems. Each room includes a private bath, individual temperature control, and an emergency call system. Laundry, linen, and housekeeping services are also part of our daily care. Telephones and cable television are available at affordable fees. Residents can bring their own personal furniture, if they desire. Our dining room is open for three restaurant-style meals and two snacks each day. Food is also stocked in resident lounges on each floor. Individuals in need of personal care for certain activities of daily living require an atmosphere of support, but one that fosters independence as well. The care team at Mt. Assisi Place is dedicated to achieving such balance for the welfare of residents, their family members, and other caregivers. Residents can receive round-the-clock care under the supervision of our nursing staff. They also enjoy unlimited visitation privileges, both on- and off-campus, which contributes greatly to the family atmosphere of Mt. Assisi Place. The School Sisters of St. Francis coordinate daily masses in our beautiful chapel, enriching the spiritual lives of our residents. Residents at Mt. Assisi Place typically range in age from their mid-70s to their upper-90s, both female and male. But there is no age requirement. Our administrator discusses each individual situation with each family to determine if Mt. Assisi Place is the right fit. Many are Catholic, and most — but not all — come from the Pittsburgh area. In cases where assisted-living arrangements are appropriate for them, married couples share a room.

To learn more or to schedule a tour, please call 412-761-1999 or contact Diane Ott, administrator, at dott@mtassisiplace.com.
