🗳️ How the Voting Can Impact Medicaid & Medicare

💡 Fact: Voting helps shape the policies and funding decisions that affect healthcare programs like Medicaid (Medical Assistance) and Medicare.

When people vote, they help choose leaders who decide:

How state and federal healthcare funds are used 💰
What services will be covered (like home care, mental health, and prescriptions) 🏥
How programs coordinate with state resources for seniors and people with disabilities 👩‍🦳
🌟 Your voice matters — voting ensures that your experiences and needs are represented when healthcare priorities are set for the future.

💊 Facts About Medigap, Medicare & Medicaid!

1️⃣ Medicare isn’t “one-size-fits-all.”

Original Medicare covers hospital (Part A) and medical (Part B) costs.
Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) can include extra benefits like dental, vision, and wellness programs.
2️⃣ Medigap is like a superhero sidekick! 🦸

Also called Medicare Supplement Insurance, it helps cover out-of-pocket costs that Medicare doesn’t pay, like copays and deductibles.
3️⃣ Medicaid can vary by state! 🌎

It provides health coverage for people with low income or disabilities.
Some states offer extra benefits like transportation, home care, and vision.
Some people are dual-eligible, meaning they get both Medicare and Medicaid — which can make healthcare more affordable and comprehensive!

✨ Success Through Setbacks: Venerando’s Journey with enTRUST ✨

Venerando’s path to independence was filled with challenges. He lived in a personal care home with poor conditions, and inconsistent financial management led to the loss of his Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) due to unreported income. Despite this setback, he stayed focused on his goals: stable work, his own apartment, and renewing his driver’s license.

Things got tougher when the state abruptly shut down his care home, forcing him to relocate far from everything familiar. enTRUST’s Benefits Counseling team stepped in, helping him navigate complex challenges like benefits reinstatement, and the loss of income.

With no income and facing eviction from his new care home, Venerando’s support network—including enTRUST, Mainstay Life Services, Rankin Christian Center, and his family—helped him secure his own apartment. This milestone marked a turning point: he found a retail job, rebuilt his daily routine, and regained dignity through work.

enTRUST’s advocacy led to the reinstatement of his SSDI benefits and a reduction of his debt. Now, with enTRUST as his representative payee, Venerando’s benefits are managed for long-term stability. Today, he’s living independently and building the life he always envisioned which is a true testament to the power of benefits counseling, Social Security protections, and community support.

🧠 Friday FACT from enTRUST!

💸 Did You Know? Social Security & the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)

Social Security benefits didn’t always rise automatically with inflation - in fact, COLAs didn’t exist until 1975.

✅ Before 1975, it actually took an act of Congress to raise benefits.
✅ In 1972, Congress passed a law tying Social Security benefits to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) — and by 1975, automatic COLAs became reality!

Since then, beneficiaries have received annual increases most years, helping them keep up with everyday costs.

📈 Recent COLA Highlights:
• 2025: +2.5%
• 2024: +3.2%
• 2023: +8.7% (the largest in over 40 years!)

💡 Takeaway: COLAs play a vital role in protecting buying power as living costs rise.

Stay informed. Facts like this help you understand how Social Security keeps pace with inflation and supports long-term financial security!

🏛️ Did You Know? Social Security & the First Government Shutdown

Back in 1980, the U.S. experienced its first federal government shutdown. While it caused confusion and delayed some services, here’s the good news:

✅ Social Security benefits STILL went out!
Because Social Security is funded by payroll taxes—not Congress’s annual budget—monthly checks continued without interruption.

⚠️ But some services were delayed:
• Reduced office hours
• Slower processing of new claims
• Postponed hearings and appeals

💡 Takeaway: Even during a shutdown, Social Security payments continue—but administrative processes may face delays.

Stay informed. Facts like this help reduce uncertainty and empower smarter planning!

🧠 Friday FACT from enTRUST!

Want to lower your Medicare copays? You might be able to! 💸

If your income drops due to a major life change—like retirement, divorce, or losing a spouse—you can ask Medicare to lower your IRMAA (the extra amount you pay for Parts B & D).

💡 Don’t overpay if life changed your pay.
