Year 4 in the books!
It’s been a pleasure working with students in High Point University’s DPT Class of 2026 this summer.
We wrapped up our Sports PT / S&C Elective with a full weekend diving into the lower extremity.
Topics covered included Lower Extremity Training Principles, Blood Flow Restriction Training, Return-to-Sport Testing, and case studies for the post-operative knee and lower leg.
We spent time in the lab implementing in-line dynamometry for the hip and knee, calculating joint torque to help decision making, using video analysis to gain insight during jump testing, and experiencing the effect that simple cues and tools like metronomes can have on helping us dial up or dial down the intensity of plyometric exercises.
The course has grown into an elective that provides a really awesome view into sports rehab & high performance, with lessons that can immediately be applied in their upcoming clinical work.
It’s information that I wish I was exposed to as a student and I’m grateful to for being so forward thinking in their curriculum development.
Good luck to my students as they close out the last two weeks of the didactic curriculum, take their comprehensives, and prepare for their year of clinical work.
I have no doubt this group, like the others before them, will go on to do big things!
