I don't know why it's taken forever for me to post about this, but it's probably because I'm not great at doing anything with my business social media, haha. 🤣

I always feel proud when I finish a podcast interview, but I will tell you... This one hit different. Kyira & I knew as soon as we "met" that this would be a winner as we connected on so many energetic levels. She is a true powerhouse of a woman. Her bravery in tackling various sensitive topics on her podcast, "Untethering Shame," is so admirable. We align on a lot of major issues & this back & forth dialogue is proof that us humans are connected in much deeper ways than we assume.

Codependency is so deeply, DEEPLY rooted in shame. You feel shame for living, breathing, existing. It's intertwined with anything & everything you do & feel. Was thrilled to be invited onto the Dimed Out podcast to discuss my journey in becoming a "recovered perfectionist!" In my portion of this episode, my new friend & I review our individual histories with perfectionism & how the need to "be a certain way" infiltrated so many different aspects of our lives.

I talk in depth about the origin story of my perfectionism & how deeply it was intertwined with my Codependency. Perfectionism was the mask that I wore ever since I was a little girl to convince everyone that I was okay, that I was worthwhile & that I was good enough. When that mask was challenged or if it accidentally fell off, I was a complete wreck. Mal & I have a playful conversation about how Internal Family Systems therapy has been so helpful in unblending Jess from that Perfectionist/Overachiever Part of me, lovingly named Exercise Barbie.

Beyond grateful for this amazing opportunity to chat & be interviewed by Stephanie McPhail with about my experiences with covert narcissistic abuse, codependency & post-traumatic growth. Stephanie is a fellow domestic abuse survivor who also uses her platform (with the help of her new incredible husband) to help others recognize patterns of behavior that cause them to attract & to stay in toxic relationships. Together, they are healing the world one victim at a time.

Throughout our conversation, I openly discuss the feelings of hypocrisy & imposter syndrome that I felt in being a Mental Health Provider supporting & helping others prepare to leave their abusive relationships ALL WHILE being STUCK in my own. I talk in depth about my history with talk therapy, Al-Anon meetings, CoDA meetings & other forms of self-help that got me so far... but not far enough. Stephanie & I discuss WHY somatic work is crucial in this type of recovery & how it helped to save us both.

Wrapped up hosting our first ever Codependency No More: Breaking Free, Building YOU Women's Retreat this morning. To say that this weekend was both humbling & healing is an understatement. I want to thank the women who participated for trusting us with their hearts & their stories, for allowing themselves to dig deep & for choosing themselves this weekend. This was the first step to a whole new life. I want to thank my dear friend for bringing this opportunity to me. I couldn't & wouldn't have done it without you. Together, we are truly a force to be reckoned with. Cheers to many more retreats & increasing trauma awareness, codependency awareness, narcissistic abuse awareness & grief awareness with nothing but love, acceptance, a few cozy blankets & our badass selves. 💜🩵
