It’s National Advanced Practice Provider Week, and we’re sharing Vanessa’s inspiring journey from being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a child to becoming a Nurse Practitioner. She’s faced long hospital stays, life-threatening bleeding, severe flares requiring high-dose steroids, and surgery—but pushed through nursing school and earned her master’s degree. Vanessa brings strength and real-world experience as an NP living with Crohn’s every day.

The 2025 Night of Steel Gala Presented By UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, and the Giant Eagle Foundation has become the event to attend! We had an overwhelming amount of guests wanting to come support this year's honorees - Dr. Sandra El-Hachem of Allegheny Health Network as the Excellence in Healthcare Honoree, and Lori and Lou Plung of Louis Plung & Company as the Making The Difference Honorees. Due to this outpouring of support, we have made the decision to move the gala to the Omni William Penn to accommodate a larger audience.

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Western Pennsylvania/West Virginia Chapter is thrilled to make this move as it is a testament to the dedication for our mission from our honorees and volunteer committees! We invite you to attend, celebrate, sponsor, and get involved with an evening of inspiration and mission.

We hope to see you at the Omni William Penn on November 7th to celebrate our mission and our honorees.

What if doctors could predict Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis before symptoms even start? Alan Moss, MD, our Chief Scientific Officer, was recently interviewed in a HealthCentral partnership article, where he shares how the Foundation is funding groundbreaking prevention research and leveraging our IBD Plexus® data. From blood and stool tests to AI prediction models, environmental risk tracking, and even wearable biosensors, these innovations are moving us closer to preventing IBD and finding new answers for people living with these diseases.
