The Breastfeeding Center is hosting a Maternity and Baby Item Swap on Nov 8th. A Swap is a mutually benefitting event. It gives some families a chance to offload unwanted/unused items while helping other families gather items they may need at no cost. Items can be dropped off at the Squirrel Hill KPP/BFC office from October 7-21 during the hours of 10am-12pm. Then on Nov 8th from 10am-12pm families who are looking for maternity/baby items can stop by the Squirrel Hill Well and take what they can use. Light refreshments will also be provided. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that multiple studies show that breastfeeding can reduce the risk of a women developing breast cancer. It is believed that hormonal changes, cell shedding, immune boosting properties and other protective lactation factors are the mechanism that reduce this risk. The risk reduction also increases with longer durations of breastfeeding. While breastfeeding reduces the risk, it does not provide complete protection from developing breast cancer. It is still important for women to have regular breast exams and mammograms.

When it comes to numbers, breastfed babies love 8-12. This is the number of times they need to feed in order to grow and gain weight. 8-12 milk removals per day also helps to maintain adequate milk supply. While your teen may love screaming 6-7 any chance they get, your baby and your milk supply needs 8-12. πŸ˜›πŸ˜›
