🎓 Supporting the next generation of O&P clinicians!

Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. is proud to provide hands-on orthotic and prosthetic learning opportunities across Western Pennsylvania. Through in-services, workshops, and real-world clinical experiences, we’re helping bridge the gap between the classroom and patient care.

Recently, we partnered with University of Pittsburgh PM&R at UPMC Mercy Hospital to host prosthetic workshops, offering students valuable insight into modern prosthetic techniques and clinical practice.

🌟 Today is National Plagiocephaly & Torticollis Awareness Day!

💡 What Is Plagiocephaly?
According to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Deformational Plagiocephaly refers to a head shape that is uneven, misshapen, or has a flat spot. It can result from pressure on the skull in the womb or from consistent positioning after birth.
✨ Important: Plagiocephaly and brachycephaly do not affect the brain, intelligence, or motor development.

💡 What Is Torticollis?
Torticollis occurs when a tight neck muscle causes a baby’s head to tilt or turn more to one side. This uneven positioning can contribute to plagiocephaly.
👶 Physical therapy is often recommended to improve range of motion, strengthen muscles, and help restore balanced neck movement.

💡 What Is a Cranial Remolding Helmet?
A cranial remolding helmet (orthosis) gently guides your baby’s head into a more symmetrical shape—commonly used for plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, and scaphocephaly.
⏰ Most effective between 3–18 months, with best outcomes when started early.
