Check out this new article by Amplitude Media Group about a new study on liner thickness in relation to pain points.

"What’s the thickness of the prosthetic liners you use? If you don’t know the answer, don’t feel bad—most amputees don’t. But the information is highly relevant, according to a new study published in Nature Scientific Reports. Using advanced imaging and biomechanical simulation technology, a research team found that just two millimeters of extra padding can significantly relieve pressure in lower-limb prosthetic devices."

❓ What is Spina Bifida?
Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect that is associated with life. Approximately 166,000 individuals in the United States have Spina Bifida. (Spina Bifida Association)

It’s a type of neural tube defect (NTD) that occurs when a baby’s neural tube fails to develop or close properly – the literal meaning for Spina Bifida is “split spine.” Typically occurring within the first 28 days of pregnancy while the neural tube is forming. The severity depends on everything from the size of the opening to the location on the spine. (Spina Bifida Association)

🩵 Orthotics Support and Physical Therapy Treatment
A physical therapist can work with caregivers to teach how to exercise a baby's legs to increase strength and flexibility. Specialized orthotics technologists can fit a baby with braces. These can help a baby's legs develop without curvature and support them as they begin to crawl and walk. (CDC)

🦼 Something exciting is coming to Frick Park! And we need YOUR help launching it. All-terrain wheelchairs, designed for smooth navigation of outdoor trails, are now available for rent at the FEC, as part of our promise to make Pittsburgh's parks among the most accessible in the nation!

Now through October 26, you can reserve your Trackchair for use during the weekends on the South Clayton loop, before they become fully available next spring (a trained volunteer will accompany your session).

♿ We are seeking youth, at least 5 years old, and adults with limited mobility to take part in this Trackchair Pilot Program. Be amongst the first to experience the splendor of Frick Park using the Trackchairs and provide us with valuable input.
