Resident Spotlight: Mike Glicksman, MD (PGY-2)

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
Undergrad: George Washington University
Medical School: Georgetown University School of Medicine

💯 Why UPMC: The education and people here are second to none. Through the countless opportunities this program offers and the chance to learn from attendings who are both experts in the field and excited to teach, I was confident that I’d leave here equipped to pursue a number of different career paths in PM&R. Combining this with the chance to train with so many driven and supportive co-residents in the city I grew up in made it the perfect choice for me!

🦁 Fun Fact: I’m an avid Detroit Lions fan despite having absolutely zero connections to the area. RTR!

🥾 Hobbies: Hiking, exercise, cooking, meditation

👋🏼 Favorite Part of Pittsburgh: I love enjoying the many activities and restaurants that the city has to offer, all while being around people who provide a real small town feel to the city. (And of course, all while being close to home - hi mom!)

🔝 Why UPMC: There are a few reasons that come to mind. Throughout my medical school career, I was able to make a lot of meaningful connections both academically and in life. I come from a pretty small town and I don’t really have a particular like for big cities, so Pittsburgh was a great match for me. UPMC is a top tiered academic institution that also doesn’t lack in the department of social awareness. These are two topics/areas that I hope to incorporate in my future career. Most importantly however, my wife likes it here sooooooo…… 😬

🎤 Fun Fact: I’m an avid listener of music and enjoy the process of creating it (Album: RAPIDO, Artist: ODN); I am also the newest Plant DAD on the block. 🌱

🍁 Favorite Part of Pittsburgh: The seasons. I dread the cold, but it's a small price to pay for seeing the landscape and weather change. I appreciate the pick-up soccer community here in Da Burgh. On any given day, I can go to Schenley Park at 6pm and am guaranteed to find a pickup game happening. My Co-Residents are OK too (JK love you guys) ❤️

💪 Why UPMC?: I chose UPMC because I was excited about the opportunity to train in a new environment and step outside of my comfort zone. I was also very excited by the breadth of experience with world-class training that the program provides.

🏀 Fun Fact: I went to Michael Jordan’s high school.

😋 Favorite part about Pittsburgh: the incredible food scene

Our residents, canines and their families enjoyed the 75 degree Pittsburgh weather today at the beautiful dog park at Frick Park!

Pittsburgh is loaded with beautiful green park space, like Frick!

Congratulations to the newest members of the development tracks from UPMC PM&R!

Roshawn Brown (PGY2) and George Raum (PGY2) have been accepted to the Rehabilitation Medical Scientist Training Program (RMSTP)🔬🥼🧫 They will also be completing our program’s research track, which provides protected time and mentorship during residency.

👏👏 HUGE Congratulations to our very own Dr. Gwen Sowa on her election to the National Academy of Medicine!!

⚕️Dr. Sowa is endowed professor and chair and director of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute. She is also President of . Election to the National Academy of Medicine is considered one of the highest honors in health care and medicine.

Way to go, Dr. Sowa!!

This weekend we had our 2nd annual Zumba in the Park event! Our residents and attendings wore pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, danced, and enjoyed a beautiful fall day in Pittsburgh 🍁

Thanks to our Wellness Committee for organizing and to Myra for sharing her Zumba talents with us!
