Our Story
With over 30 years in the San Francisco area and now in the Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, Pa.areas, Quest provides both summer and afterschool programs.
The Pittsburgh program is led by April Artz,MS, NCC, LPC, our director, who has extensive experience working with children's mental health and social issues and has personally directed the summer and Afterschool programs since its’ inception in 2012.
Rarely do mental health treatment programs demonstrate their effectiveness as Quest has.
The program was found to:
Reduce: • Hyperactivity
• Impulsivity
• Aggression
• Inattention
Improve: • Peer Relations
• Family Relations
• Athletic Competency
• Behavior Control
• Self-esteem
Summer Program:Quest’s summer program provides a 61⁄2-hour daily program within a day camp setting. Each child participates in a group of 10-18 campers, learning to work with others guided by two to three counselors who understand children and have been chosen for their knowledge, patience and desire to help.
Quest is fun!
Through the day camp activities, children learn to have more fun while counselors assist them to solve problems and increase confidence. Daily sports, games, arts & crafts, hikes, nature activities, music, singing and “Fabulous Fridays” entertain while providing learning experiences at camp. Instructional sports are helpful because they teach success by learning small components, then integrating these into more complex skills. Quest campers improve athletic skills as well as psychological and social ones.
Afterschool Program: Throughout the school year. To continue progress, Quest meets once a week from 3:30-5:30 pm.With the strains of homework and other activities, Quest provides a time for children to learn the critical skills associated with emotional and social intelligence. Since activities provide an opportunity to work with the child within a naturalistic environment, an activity is planned for the first hour. After a snack, campers participate in a group therapy session similar to the Summer program. Since the program is only two hours a week, campers earn more points each hour to be sufficient to buy toys at Store or participate in a fieldtrip once every five weeks.
During the school year, the Afterschool program is held at the Mifflin Ave United Methodist Church near Frick Park. The summer program meets at Community Day School in Squirrel Hill.
