Do you struggle to lift your rollator into the trunk?

This technique works really well for traditional rollators, and could also be used in a modified way with newer rollators.

Throwback to last summer and my "Mobile Psycho" car magnet (that sadly blew away 😢)

It's hilarious how many people thought it said psycho and not physio.

For those of you who don't know, a physio is short for physiotherapist which is the same thing as a physical therapist.

Who is your favorite physio?!

The NUSHU-X are smart shoes by Magnes AG — a unique technology designed to help people with neurological walking difficulties, especially Parkinsons and freezing of gait.

The shoes contain built-in sensors and AI that analyze your walking in real time and provide gentle vibration cues to help trigger stepping and improve walking rhythm.

They also track walking patterns so users and clinicians can monitor mobility over time.

I currently have several pairs available for trial and have been running monthly trial events in the South Hills of Pittsburgh where people can try them before deciding if they’re a good fit.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly rollator that can handle outdoor surfaces, this one is worth a look.

The VOCIC Z21 typically comes in under $100 and uses 8-inch wheels, which are larger than the more common 6-inch wheels found on many budget rollators.

That extra wheel size helps it do a much better job on grass, cracked pavement, and uneven sidewalks.

It’s not perfectly smooth, so if you want a very cushioned outdoor ride you may want to consider some premium rollators in the $200+ range. But for the price point, this one actually performs surprisingly well outside.

As always, I recommend checking the specs, reading reviews, and watching product videos before buying to make sure it fits your height and needs.

VOCIC did send me this rollator to test. I’m also an Amazon affiliate, which means I may earn a small commission if you purchase through my link.

Not all walkers are created equal.

And some of the newer ones are actually getting much safer.

Earlier in my career as a physical therapist, we sometimes had to tell people they shouldn’t use a rollator (the walkers with 4 wheels and a seat).

Why?

Because if someone leaned too hard on the handles, the walker could roll away from them.

That still can happen with some designs.

But newer rollators are starting to address this problem.

Some of the newer frames allow you to step more inside the walker, instead of pushing it way out in front of you.

That simple change can make the walker feel much more stable and supportive, especially for people who put a little more pressure through their arms when walking.

And when something feels safer, people are also more willing to use it.

Which matters.

And what's even better? The newer designs are also more stylish.

So we're getting better safety AND less stigma.

That's a pretty great combination.

If you or a loved one uses a walker, it’s always a good idea to have a physical therapist help you choose and properly adjust the right one.

If you're curious, the walker in the photo is the AeroWalk rollator from Drive Medical. They sent it to me to try, but I have no affiliation with the company.

Before buying a walker with a seat, there’s one measurement most people forget to check: seat height.

If the seat is too high, your feet may end up dangling when you sit. That can increase pressure on the backs of your thighs and become uncomfortable during longer sits.

A good rule of thumb is to compare the seat height of a rollator to chairs you already sit in comfortably at home.

The VOCIC Z21 rollator is interesting because it allows adjustment of both the handle height and the seat height, which can help dial in a better fit.

Happy Friday.

One of the perks of being your own boss…casual Friday whenever you want.

Also apparently making stupid faces in random mirrors between patients.

Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Most people never check the height of their walker.

But if it’s set wrong, it can seriously affect your posture and shoulder health.

When a walker is too low, people often hunch forward and put extra strain on their shoulders and wrists.

When it’s too high, it can throw off your balance and force your shoulders into an awkward position.

Over time, either one can lead to pain, poor posture, and inefficient walking.

The good news is the fix is usually simple.

Sometimes adjusting the walker just one notch up or down can make a big difference.

A physical therapist can check it quickly, or even a caregiver can take a moment to eyeball it and see if something looks off.

Everyone’s ideal walker height is a little different.

But it’s worth taking a few minutes to make sure yours is set correctly. Small adjustments can make walking safer, more comfortable, and much easier on your joints.

Do you think your walker is set at the right height?

Rollators are awesome mobility tools.

They help people stay active, walk farther, and maintain independence.

But there’s one issue I see all the time.

Some people really struggle with the brakes, especially those with weak hands, arthritis, or limited grip strength, that can make the rollator frustrating to use.

The Pelegon Rollator has brakes that are buttery smooth and much easier to operate.

For the right person, that small design change can make a big difference.
